I also got a base for my 17th birthday. I recently gave it to my daughter. It’s a Rickenbacker Hamburg 2030. Also has a very P bass like tone. I played it exclusively for about 22 years. Got some nice 5 string basses and I’m on to the next chapter in my bass playing. My bass is probably a “95”Mine is a dented, battered Yamaha RBX 250 in black (pics when I get back home tomorrow). It was my 17th birthday present from my parents back in the late 90s, so nostalgia plays a part, but it's light (and a dent magnet, so maybe basswood?) and really nails the P bass sound. My introduction to bass playing. Plus its monetary worth is almost nothing, so wouldn't be worth selling anyway
It's currently in need of some TLC, its action is a mile high and it's got a missing volume knob.
Do you have a true keeper?

the next bass i buy will be the one i keep forever.
