The Beer Home Brewers Thread

Yes, quite so. I was there recently as well, and the employee giving the tour said something to the effect of that many, if not most, of the commercial craft breweries in the US use White Labs yeast.

I prefer Wyeast XL for all of my beers - the White Labs "equivalents" don't really taste the same or as good as the Wyeast - to my palate, at least. I also appreciate the immediate feedback you get when smacking the pack; no such thing with the White Labs vials.

Dave Logsdon, the main man at Wyeast, is Link Removed now too. When I worked at FedEx I used to pick up Wyeast shipments occasionally. Those guys are extremely busy but also really know how to enjoy their work. Killer R&D department...;)

Thanks, man! I will add addictive to that. I've only just started and it's already engulfed me. TalkBass used to be my go-to time killer, along with Facebook. Now it's the Invalid Link Removed forum.

Just be sure to pace yourself. Like anything and everything, it's easy to get engulfed in homebrewing and quickly tire of it. Over the years, we've had a few guys join the homebrew club and quit a few years later.

I just cracked open one of the first of my IPA batch. It's not fully carbed yet, but it's SO good! Might be one of the best IPAs I've ever had. I'm like a kid on Xmas morning!! :hyper:

Awesome feeling, eh?

The other day I had a not-so-good brew from a store and washed it down with my dark mild, which was so much more flavorful and so much better.

The first homebrew ya nail is a wonderful experience. That feeling doesn't get old, either. :smug:

Dude, I think shed a tear of joy. I seriously think I'm gonna have a hard time topping this one. I'm a hardcore hophead, and love grapefruit. Along with a good dose of honey at flameout, I also cont. hopped some Cascade and Chinook hops. I lowered the dose of Warrior and Citra that it called for. It's very citrusy and grapefruity. It's damn good!

If you like citrus bomb IPAs (I do!) you might try some experiments with Summit (just for bittering) and Amarillo (for aroma and dry hop) as well as the usual suspects.

I finally cleared out enough space in the garage to get restarted.

First on deck will be a Doppelbock made with Kolsch yeast to avoid having to lager it. Might work, might turn out weird, only one way to find out...
