For that Fender sound some demand at times:
Neck thru 5 for $200(when it first came out, thanks again Kurt!):
As you can tell Kurt/Rondo has good stuff.
Bought for $65(maxed out truss rod). Massaged the neck + put lighter strings on it + did a complete setup, son played it for over a year(his 1st bass).
He won 3rd place in Texas High School UIL jazz bass last year on this eBay bargain(neck thru SG with strange cutouts and EMG's). VERY good-sounding bass:
Bought for daughter but the Seymour Duncan designed pickups, even though WAY out of alingment with the strings, sound great & the bass plays great. If we EVER do a girls high school gig or teen benefit(i.e. childrens hospital, etc.), or similar event I WILL use this:
And finally, my headphone practice box until I got a Line 6 BODXTLive....a Behringer bean(shown in my "woodshed"):
I think that's all of the bargain stuff.

my mexican fender i always thought was a hell of a lot of bang for the buck..but now im eyeing up these SX basses and they dont look bad at all! considering a fretless jazz maybe, for some jaco?
and speaking of jaco, the squire fretless jazz bass (obviously a jaco model, but not officially) is honestly a nice sounding bass. ebanol fingerboard lined fretless, they go for anywhere from $150-$250, i've always wanted one but never went for it.

I paid over $800 dollars for the grey EDB600 brand spankin new from GC about 5 years ago. Then I purchased the off-white EDB600 for $150 off craigslist about 5 months ago.

The cheapest thing I've got is a used Squier Affinity P Bass. I just picked it up a few days ago. I love the way it feels. The sound isn't bad, but I am definitely looking forward to throwing in a Seymour Duncan pick up and a new set of Elixir heavy gauge strings. I've also got a new bridge (not a Badass II, unfortunately) and a cool new pickguard coming. I figured that the pick guard would help me tolerate the dull blue color. 
I would also consider my Ibanez GSR200 a bargain. It was affordable ($200) and certainly has been worth it. I started out on that bass a year ago and love how well it has played.

A fretted 1990's Fernandez APB-5. This is the 5 string version of Rocco Prestia's bass. So punchy and growely it just sits perfectly in any situation and it is only 7.5 lbs. I found it at good guys music in Honolulu for $399. The were like $1200 new.

The new SX fretless Jazz 5 string. $129 for the bass. $81 for the TI jazz flats. Mwaaaaah ha ha ha. What a great bass!! It was good before I changed out the strings, but with the TI's it is just killer!

I have a Squier Vintage Modified fretless Jazz - I love it, and have gigged it plenty before I bought my MIA P bass (now shown in this pic), which I can't seem to leave home for some reason.

If you really want "cheap", how about my (un)patented "Strap Locks"
