The best post-rock bass??

I red the thred... and listen to "post rock" of the RC and Isis variety... i'd throw shrinebuilder in there too.
I maintain any bass will do, but since I play a P, I say play a P.
I get great results with my 3-band EBMM Stingray 4. Realistically, I'd be looking more into what effects you'd need rather than the bass itself.
There is NO other bass than a RITTER or FODERA. Without one of these you won't have rock tone

A 6 string jazz or one of its derivatives. Keeping all your options on the table - if I were playing post-rock, I'd definitely go with that. And lots of pedals.

I just read the thread and one of my favorite bands Sigur Ros is post rock "Hey look Ma I'm hip"
Post-rock would imply that rock is over and out, wouldn't it?

I listen to post-rock and I've seen some acts live and there is no consistent theme. Post-rock is defined by its particular structure (and sometimes atmospheric nature) and instrumentation that resembles rock music, but not by a specific sound/mood/theme/setting/fashion/message.
What about post-metal?
I'd play a P, because I usually do for most things. I'd go with what you're comfortable with, and devote your efforts to researching various pedals - delay, reverb, perhaps a looper, and various forms of dirt will make a bigger difference to your sound that your bass, in this context.
Best bass for "post rock" would have a button for built in Auto Tune...nothing screams "post rock" like overproduced pop crap which is auto tuned into the next galaxy 
I would probably go with some active J/MM, possibly a 5 string depending on what you're really aiming for. Ibanez's ATK and RD series come to mind

I think "mood-rock" would be a better name for the genre, since "post" implies "after", which is obviously stupid. Same for bands like Radiohead and whatnot, since what they do is really not "rock" by most people's definition.
In any case, I think pretty much any bass can work in terms of sound, so it will come down to your personal preferences, or possibly the band's leanings in terms of brand/style/color. What do the guitar player's use?
