It always surprised me that Ian Paice didn't get more praise as a player - especially considering his performance on this record. Sure, he didn't have the skull-crushing power of Bonham, but he had every bit of drive, better sense of groove, ten times the finesse, AND a drum sound way ahead of his time.

The Who - Quadrophenia

It has the broadest emotional spectrum of any rock album I've ever heard.

From Seething Anger and Contempt ('Punk And The Godfather', 'Doctor Jimmy') to Love and Yearning ('Sea and Sand', 'Love Reign O'er Me'), even some humor ('Bell Boy').

Not to mention that every song rocks hard.

The Best Rock Album ever, by far.

I'm not a huge rock fan, but Back in Black by AC/DC is perfect for that classic sort of hard rocking thing.

This is the first one that came to my mind.

RHCP Blood Sugar Sex Magick is awfully darn strong from end to end as well. And sounds freakin amazing even this many years after the fact.
