"Come My Fanatics..." by Electric Wizard.

Shook the floor of a rather well built shack used in the electrical class I graded from to show that you actually know how to wire something. The kicker: it was a pretty low grade boom box

Just a simple question, not difficult, and I note to prevent any possible arguments, not objective.

What is the best rock album ever? Doesn't have to be specific, doesn't have to be complex, doesn't even need a reason other than "I like it!". I just want to know your thoughts.

For me, I'm gonna have to say that I'm going to cheat and say there are two tied for first.

1. Ramones, by the Ramones. I love this album- there are no fancy tricks, no fancy recording effects, nothing but pure undiluted intensity and rock. With this albums, the Ramones proved to me that music isn't about anything but the pure sheer joy of performing.

2. Loveless, by My Bloody Valentine. Now, this album is possibly the antipode of the previous- fancy tricks, fancy recording effects, but it has the same pure intensity and awesomeness of Ramones. Kevin Shields' guitar wizardry on this album is something to behold. The undefined, dreamy, wall of sound of this album is amazing and emotional, and so astonishingly that it sits tied as my number one.

I love Physical Graffiti, but Led Zep II was such a defining album for the Era. While Zep was the best selling a band in the 70's, Dark Side of the Moon was the best selling album of the 70's. To me anything after about 85 isn't eligible, because while there were some great albums after 85 Rock was pretty much defined by then.

I'd have to go with Zep II.

I wouldn't argue with ABB live at the Fillmore East as the best live rock album.

Frank Zappa - We're Only In It For The Money

I don't know if it rocks hard enough - you could term it an R&B album. And bassists will be thoroughly disappointed, especially were they to compare it to the album it satirizes, Sgt. Pepper's. It's "dumb" bass. But 40 years later it still sounds harmonically and rhythmically fresh, even while evoking (and eviscerating) Beatles nostalgia. Even the musique concrète is fantastic. None of his "Hot Rats" guitar chops on display, but cohesive in a way no other album of his was.

T-Rex - Electric Warrior. Nothing fancy going on, but very sweet

Manson - Mechanical Animals. best manson album, this really rocks

Butthole Surfers - Independent Worm Saloon. never heard of the surfers? don't let the name influence you, these guys rock.

The Tragically Hip - Up to Here. absolute rock. nonstop quality.

Tom Waits - Bone Machine, or take your pick... gotta love Tom Waits

not to hijack this thread.... but there are some albums here I should check out....

but how do you get your music these days? I still buy CDs and burn them into my pc (got a few 1.5 tb drives) as wma lossless files. I can't stand downloading music as the quality is too low from itunes - and even if they increased their bit rate to 320 I can still hear the diff between that and lossless music / wav files.
