The KVR Developer Challenge is on, with 41 new free plugins/programs/sound libraries. One of them is an entry I worked on - Marie Ork, a female virtual death metal vocalist. You can register and vote on your favorites, too, with the winning entry's developer getting a trip to NAMM to present there. Of course, that would be HUGE for me.

Yeah, my friends who are into rock always insisted I use that kit in their tracks, instead of bigger, more realistic and theoretically better kits. It really has the archetypal processed post-2000 hard rock drum sound.

Sweet sax recordings.

As For drums. ...compressing is good, I think. Lets you choose what you want to stand out. May sound unnatural but compressing/EQing repeatedly works for Vengeance.

Ever checked out Tweakbench? Good old video game sound vsts.

Also, there's another KVRDC this year, with an August 30 deadline - so quite a few free plugins and sample libraries should drop on that day. I might make one also.

While not exactly music related, I found a great tool that will help anyone who's needing an easy-to-use file converter. This came in handy when trying to convert AAC voice memos to MP3s so I could work some rehearsal recordings over in audacity.

File Converter - Convert & compress everything in 2 clicks!

Once downloaded, it works in the background (a "shell", I think?) and will allow you to convert any file you need by right-clicking* into a drop-down menu. There is no need to find the app, open, or anything else.

*There is no mention of an iOS version of this as it specifically mentions usage within Windows Explorer.

I am not sure how to ask my question in musicese so bear with me.

I have some sheet music for piano. It would like to figure out what guitar chords would be appropriate/compatible to play along. I have done it manually and came up with a significantly different results than my piano player friend. What I do know is that the guitar sounds awful with the piano playing it with those chords. Without a willing pianist and guitar player, I have no way to test if my results would sound better. Bass? Yeah, my part kind of relies on their parts getting worked out.

Software?

How's that for a noob/hack question?

Hey guys,

I'm working with Big Ear Games who developed Big Ear, the official music learning app of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation. It's a mobile game that integrates ear-training exercises into a puzzle-based adventure. It also has an in-game sequencer to help apply the concepts and allows users to publish their own songs.

Everyone is welcome to play. We're also working on a classroom feature to enable distance learning.
