Very true - usage can range from Jocular Criticism all the way up to DefCon 3, plus it can be used as Punctuation. Similar usage applies to a short word beginning with a letter between E and G.

As to whether OBL is still around, I have my doubts. It'd be an interesting exercise to submit one of the recent audio rants to independent forensic analysis to see how it stacks up against his fulminations around 9/11.

I work with quite a few Pakistanis, I can tell you with 100% certainty that "Paki" is not used as a slur here. At least in my little corner of the planet. It's used but not in a derogatory sense. It's no different from "Poles", "Czechs" "Danes", "Thais", etc etc.

It's in the governments best interest to have him alive. It justifies just about anything they want to do. To Al Qaida supporters, their leader will rise up again and do something stupid, so why look for a replacement to the great great leader.

Interesting hypothesis, but the world is full of unsolved mysteries - POW's who are still missing 40+ years later, vanishings, governments aiding folks, you name it.
But yes, the conspiracy theories are fun when they involve the evil bad bad USA.

Missing POWs is nothing unusual. I know of no war where everyone was accounted for. That would go double for a war that was often fought in small units over jungle terrain where bodies quickly decompse and vegetation grows very fast.

Agreed, I don't see what's "racial" about the term. It's just an abbreviation of Pakistani.

However, when he says "Get in the back of the bus- No, get OFF the bus, cuz this ain't your ride!" maybe that could have been taken the wrong way :smug:

Absolutely. But I'm talking about known POW's who are not returned after the war and not unlocated KIA's etc. The Soviets held German POW's into the 50's and even 60's after WW2. US POW's were also not all returned after the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Some NK defectors told of US POW's being sent to the USSR and China post war. During and after WW2 the Soviets deported millions of Poles who were said to have "emigrated to the UK or the USA", when in reality they were in Siberian labor camps.
My point is that I personally don't think it's a fantasy to believe that Bin Laden is still alive. Especially given the fact that the guy has supporters in both individuals and even governments around the world. The guy's a virtual hero in some places.
Then again, yeah, he may be dead, who am I to know? But if I hear yet another conspiracy theory against the US, I think I'll scream. Apparently we didn't land on the moon, we orchestrated 911 ourselves, we invented AIDS to depopulate the 3rd world so we can take over, we invented a perfect "green" method of transportation that can revolutionize the world but big oil pays off the gov't to keep it secret, we know what UFO's really are but the big bad gov't wont tell the world, and the latest - Bin Ladin is dead but we keep him alive to manipulate our joyous wars and subjugate the world because hey, we LOVE to bomb innocent people....

Evil bad USA....not at all. I just have a hard time believing that we know so much about Al Qaida, their movements, their people, their plans. Yet we don't know where this idiot is. Has he really out smarted the USA intelligence superiority? I find it hard to believe. Unless, they're not trying real hard to find him.

I have too much respect for your intelligence gathering and monitoring capability to accept that he's still out there without anyone's knowledge. Somebody knows and somebody will gladly tell all for the right price, I would assume.

I think in the grand scheme of things, I think strategically, he's better off alive, dangerous and under hot pursuit than being a dead man.

I'm skeptical of stories about American POWs in Russia or China. I believe that more than likely American soldiers still in that part of the world are defectors. I also think that Russian defectors may have had reasons to tell stories, and that as the US war effort in Vietnam faltered, Nixon, Agnew, and Kissinger were happy to fire up the base with stories of trapped soldiers behind the Iron Curtain.

to put your views int perspective, many soldiers from all nations who are currently in afghanistan say that they have actually never seen one single taliban. they see and hear bullets, explosions, rockets.... but never the people firing them. so based on that, i think it's conceivable that Osama is still out there, maybe on a different continent, though.


the story linked by the op seems like bs to me. he claims he could have shot him if he had a rifle even though he didn't see him?

This is very true. Of all the allied troops there only a small percentage ever actually see taliban. It's a different kind of war. Theres' not enough taliban for them to wage a conventional war. They move in small groups and use their knowledge of the terrain to their advantage. Those that are on patrols in areas where they are operating encounter them often. Actually seeing them in that terrain must be an adrenilin rush :eyebrow:

I'm reminded of that video from a few years ago where Osama was seen congratulating other Al Qaeda members for the September 11 attacks. That video is considered to be fake. Also, he's on the FBI most wanted list but there is nothing linking him to September 11.

It is still classed as the most offensive word in the english language over here. Guess we just don't take offence to it as easily!

I understand it is just an abbreviation, but over here during the second half of the last century, it was the context in which it was used, along with the complimentary boot to the head which is why it's classed as a slur over here.

It really is just a case of learning something new every day. Didn't realise it was just isolated mainly to the UK in that way. A bit of advice for if you ever visit over this way, avoid using that term as you would the n-bomb!


Anyways, on topic, this guy is still a nutter!
