I owned a few Bongo 4s. Liked the tone & playability; couldn't get past the look. EBMM came out with the Reflex which had the Bongo electronics in a more conservative package. I like my Reflexes. My EBMM journey ends there and I'm happy with the Reflexes I own.

The Bongo’s looks

I always thought it looked like a magnet, or at least their magnetic “horseshoe” inlay. Probably what they were going for since it featured their (new at the time) neodymium magnet pickups. Gotta appreciate that the BMW design team committed that hard to a theme. I’m not a huge BMW fan (especially since their cars seem to come standard without blinkers) but I do like the Bongo design!
I’d be down for a pickguardless bongo HS with a roasted neck/board (ebony ok too) and Honeyburst finished mahogany body. Take my money EBMM!!
I never understood how people found the bongo ugly. I remember seeing it after release in a german bass magazine. Loved the look at first sight...
Who the heck cares what it looks like- your opinion is the only one that matters here. Play it if you like it and the others can go fly a kite
I've owned several. Tried to like them. Just were not for me.
I can't think of a less metal/badass looking bass. A Bongo sounds perfect for a church band, especially in white.
Anytime a band member says a different instrument sounds better my first thought is "Where's a blindfold? Let's test that."

Simply ridiculous. Everybody has something to say about stuff that genuinely shouldn’t matter to them at all. If you didn’t ask for the guitarist’s opinion, perhaps you should remind him that he is not responsible for your choices in equipment and that you’re not that concerned with his.

I think the only thing uglier than a Bongo is a Kubicki Factor, but the music is what ultimately matters, so you do you!
All I know is every live vid of a Bongo I've watched is literally the best sounding bass out there. My conclusion? Sound guys LOVE bongos!
