Very different for sure. I love the dual humbuckers and the pre is such an exacting tool.

i think the guy at Long & McQuade said 6 of them arrived. I ordered mine last May and he said I wasn’t the one waiting the longest…
we chatted for a short bit on global supply shortages - apparently most of the big guitar makers are hugely back ordered as well. (Gibson, Taylor etc)
hope yours is in that order!

So long but so worth it. It plays like butter, and I can finally say my bass GAS is gone. Currently rocking a 6HH Stealth black, the 6HH harvest orange and the 6HH tangerine fretless!

How does that bass differ from the basswood bongo as far as tone goes I wonder? I think that one has an ash body. My bongo is the 2021 BFR crescendo white. Mine has a maple fretboard too. I know it sounds awesome. I love mine. It’s the best bass I own. My guitar player favored my stingray and swore up and down it was a better bass. He swore that for a year. I recently acquired an ampeg SVT vr, and played both basses through it and he actually admitted the Bongo sounded better than the stingray. They are both awesome basses though.
I’ve got that same bass. I got it in July of last year. Flat out AWESOME bass!! Yes I can tell the difference between it and my stingray special 5 HH. I tend to favor my bongo just a little more. They are both awesome basses.
Anybody using a Bongo for country gigs? I’m currently doing a festival circuit (& next yr looks awesome)
with a modern country band. My go to basses are active 5’s- a Modulus Quantum 5 & a Tobias basic 5 and they are both keepers for sure… I’ve used a stingray 5 in the past, and I’m a fan of those.. The bongo 5 has piqued my interest very much.. would love to hear about your experiences with the bongo for country music..

I'm in a mixed genre band - we play a bit of everything. With my Bongo 5HH going down low and being able to cop a modern or even old school country sound, it works great. Now I can't speak to whether your audience will have an issue with it's modern design. I've gotten crap for showing up to blues gigs with my bongo because it didn't have the right "look". But once you start playing you've have everyone dancing to YOUR groove.
Thanks for the reply… Fortunately I can play whatever bass I choose without any issues from band members, etc.. At my very first rehearsal, I used a passive lull P 5, (thinking it was most appropriate for the sound & looks, & surprisingly I was wrong)- the last couple songs of the rehearsal, I played my Modulus Quantum 5. The whole band loved the Modulus over the lull, & since then I’ve never even given it a second thought on the appearance of my basses anymore. Sound is paramount.. I also happen to think the bongo looks cool…
From reading testimonies, & listening to bongo clips, the bongo captures the essence of the stingray tone, but is its own animal.
Anybody have any live clips or studio recordings they’ve done with a Bongo 5 ? Would love to listen to some examples… I’m trying to sell myself into buying a Bongo.. I don’t need much to pull the trigger on the right one. Especially for next year as we hit the festival circuit again… (I’m very close to purchasing one. it just needs to be an ebony board & HH configuration..)
Also, can someone briefly fill me in on the history of the bongo as far as preamp/ electronic differences, pickup differences.. (if any changes have been made on the bongo over the years)

Also, Dream Theater of course.There was a single pick up Bongo which had 3 band eq, a HS one with the same preamp as the HH and a HSp and HHp which had a Piezo and stacked knobs all over.
No changes that I am aware of except the tuners were swapped when they launched the lightweight in house tuners.

I just really think the bongo checks all the boxes for me.. 24 fret, ebony board option, 18v pre… stingray + modern tones… plus the distinctive look.. which I love- I’m partial to rather radical bass designs-,Kubicki, dingwall, etc.. I’m most likely going to wait til early 2023, as I’ve already made some big purchases in 2022 and will need some gear purchases for 2023 (income tax purposes) anyhow, thanks for the response!
