You are totally correct. I'm sorry I have faulty memory disease. I went back and looked and the date of birth of my Bongo was 2/14/06
I don't know why I thought 1999
There are different grits of Scotchbrite pads available.

I probably would have finished the job & stripped the rest of the bass down at that point & then given it about 6 coats of tung oil.
Me too. Looks like the guy selling it didn't bother to remove the neck first… could still be salvaged with a little effort.
My 2010 Bongo 5H that I bought this week from a forum member. It’s parked in front of an SR Special 5HH, SR Special 5H, and fretless EBMM Sterling 5H. Always wanted to try one and was happy this came along. Rarely use the neck pickup (a holdover from my Jazz Bass days, tho I still have two) so the 5H models are ideal. The Bongo plays extremely well and sounds different from the Rays, in a good way. I like my instruments light (that 5HH is 8.5lbs) but the Bongo came in at 9lbs, 7oz and a tad neck heavy. Have some G&L lightweight tuners on order (direct replacements) and decided to give the slinger strap a go to see if it will help with weight and balance. Really want this to work because the playability and sound suit me. BTW, put some Labella LTFs on it, which really make it a groove machine. I’ve kinda transition to flats lately (all 4 basses in the photo have flats) and was surprised at how well the Bongo wears them.

This thing feels light and balances well on a strap. Jammed with someone last night and it sounds great. We were in a dark room with some LED lights changing colours and the finish looks really cool the way the light reflects off of it.

I want one of these sooooo bad that I can taste it but I'm also rather proud of myself for NOT getting one. I'm 70 and Single. I've sold a TON of my basses...which brings tears to my Eyes fairly often......but when the war comes or Covid gets me my Extended family will be putting my Gear out to the Curb for the Recycle guy to take. If it's OK with you I'll just admire Yours.

I'm curious about that...any chance you have a clip of someone playing a Bongo through that? Every so often I would like a little bit more pick grunt coming out of my OD pedal with the Bongo.
I havent seen anyone do a clip so give me some time and I can do that!

A question for the 5 HS owners - what sort of neck pickup height have you found to be best, for a good tone with both pickups blended evenly? I've currently got mine wound down fairly low, to get the volume consistent with the bridge pickup, but I've probably lost a bit of tone because of it. (Yes, I know, I should just try out a few heights and check the results, just thought I'd check with the Brains Trust for any findings worth sharing!)

I have recently acquired a gorgeous 2008 deep red EBMM Bongo. It is a lovely bass to play.

As a Bongo owner and lover, I can actually see what the Lobster is referring to re: toilet seat. Still doesn’t take anything away from a fabulous bass.Dear "Crusty"......Again, I like you, and we're neighbors,....but on this we disagree.
And as far as design, BMW was involved in the design BUT... WITH our Beloved MusicMan Master and High Priest: "Big Poppa". In the eyes of many he should be listed in Marvel Comics as a "Super Hero"...complete with a Cape and a Titanium Crown of some kind.
Now...so as not to insult you in any way.....the "Toilet Seat" thing. It shall forever be the cause of much pain to hear that phrase, one which I shall defend as long as I live, but other Genius designs have suffered similar insults as well. Leo Fender was laughed at. Ned Steinberger was laughed at. The list is a long one.Strange Shapes? Hofner 500/1. Danelectro Longhorn. Both killer basses.

I've heard people say that since it came out. And here we are, with people waiting a year for a new bongo and it's only getting more expensive so people want it.
Also it's the best sounding bass I've ever played and thats comparing to the likes of Fodera, Spector USA, Vintage fenders, etc..
I really like the bongo, but I wish they would a SS and a bit more Gibson like with a set neck and some ‘classier’ colors instead of the Fender style rock and roll fun type colors.
Are you sure you really like the Bongo?
