I have tried to build a bass on the carvin websire using the most expensive options they have . It still costs only $ 2200 . Absolutely incredible .
I dont know about you , but I have an enormous respect for Ed Friedland . And when he posted some clips on website and said that its the best Carvin he's ever seen, I've been dying to order one . It is a great bass .
Just one question to the owners, how bad is the hum with the J99's ??

Seriously, from everything I have seen, the SB5000 looks to be the best buy out there for a boutique style Jazz bass.
I've watched several Ed Reviews, and I've seen him pooh-pooh a few things - - he seems to call them like he sees them...
It helps that old Ed is serious guy who REALLY likes to play - - and that he plays like the devil - - So it makes darn near anything look and sound dandy.
But I'm sold on the SB5000, Ed or no Ed - - I just don't have a "need" right now. I'm learning to "make do" with my Zon...
Yet another impressive review by Ed. He can make a rubber band on a broom stick sound good!!!! If I ever do end up getting a Jazz bass, it will be the SB5000 for sure!!!

Seriously, Ed - you are killing me. I just got over my lust for a Sterling 5 string after seeing you play it in the Shuttle 9.0 review - now this.
I noticed the bass while looking at the Carvin catalog, which arrived in the mail yesterday and built one on the site - something like $1300 by the time I was done with it. Amazing.
One thing, though - either I've only seen pictures and videos of little guys playing these, or the body seems a little large. Thoughts?
The body is a bit larger than a Jazz, mainly the top horn. The butt end is pretty much the same.
Hey Ed, about that top horn, they fit kinda tight in most gig bags because of that, however they fit nicely in the new MTD gig bag (the red gig bag with the black leather trim). I have one and like it very much.
BTW, not to get off the subject about the SB bass, I really like your Bass Improvisation book.
