Interesting that William Parker is using one, as I've seen him a few times on a Gage bass. Has he switched, or does he use both?

Interesting that William Parker is using one, as I've seen him a few times on a Gage bass. Has he switched, or does he use both?
Not sure, he had just gotten it. It was with Die Like a Dog trio.
I wouldn't bite if it didn't have the hybrid option - I'm not interested in playing a plywood bass but that is often what happens when you roll the dice. I've played Shen hybrids and they are fine.
Also, if you want to be proactive in asking for gigs out of town it is a bit rough to demand a nice bass on top of a flight, a fee and and bed.
With so few promoters actually getting paid for their work finding a great bass isn't always an option.
When you are invited it is a different story but even then being self contained makes you more likely to be invited back.
Did he have the strings up at the height he normally plays? I'm interested because on the one I tried, when I got the strings where I like them (a lot less extreme than William Parker!) it rattled like crazy, but sounded better when I put them back down to the height the owner of the bass uses.
They were way up, too high for me or (Even Kowald!!). In the thread here it seems like there are ways to get rid of rattles that come up. I am in my "old-man" phase with action. I keep it as low as I can play un-amplified now! More Guy/Phillips than Kowald/Parker these days!
Mine are gradually creeping lower too!
Maybe I should give the Chadwick some more consideration, it is a lot cheaper than the alternatives
Yeah, the price, the compact design, free shipping, case included, choice of strings and hybrid option are the selling points.
The hybrid is $4200 flat with shipping. All the other full bass options feel like they are gouging you somewhere - usually the case.
I got tired of borrowing basses and just haven't even pursued travel for about 6 year. I haven't been to Europe since 2010.

So sorry you'll have to leave the EU, Oilebrice. It won't be the same without you. Any way, in my heart, you all British will always be European. 
Yeah, still probably stronger than mine! UK bass players will probably end up being more exotic now. It might work in your favor!
I don't do any traveling gigs, I'm interested in a Chadwick because I have a small vehicle and would have no way to haul a non-folding upright. With one of these, I'd be able to keep my current car.
I just pulled the trigger on a blonde hybrid! Should have it in three months.
Hey, a question: anyone using the padded soft cover that Charlie now offers? I understand they have quarter-inch padding and an integrated shoulder strap. Wondering if the ergonomics work for around-town gigs and the like.
Wow that bass in the smart car is pretty impressive. I certainly didn't think that was going to fit in there.
Hmm. Turns out the padded soft cover CFB currently offers is pretty much your standard-sized bag, to be used when the bass is fully assembled. There are plans to design a compact cover, but nothing has yet materialized.
Just returned from another two weeks on the road with my CFB. Got slapped with $75 fees each way to check it as oversized baggage on Southwest, but it arrived safely, and sounded great.
I did have to change strings mid-tour as my D string was coming unraveled at the tuning peg. This was after a year of consistent use being setup and packed up. I had it strung up with Spirocore Mittels and it sounded great. On the road, the string shop only had Spiro Weichs. There weren't any other options, so I bought those, and to my ears, the bass responds even better under slightly lower tension. Win/win.

'Saw a Chadwick hybrid that was completely destroyed by the airlines last week-top all bashed in, bassbar trashed, soundpost puncture, internal struts all messed up and even the case broken. I would definitely NOT call that a road worthy touring case; more like a decorative hardshell for the tour bus. It amazes me considering it is just another $1500 Chinese bass that there is no option to get a replacement top and everyone involved claims it was not their fault; another disposable BSO headed for the dumpster....not impressed....
