Okay, so I mentioned yesterday that there’s a Traynor 200-watt 115 combo (60 lbs) for sale at the Davenport GC for $199. I forget the model name, but I saw it reviewed in TB in 2013 maybe.

So Traynor experts, is it worth be taking a look or would I be better passing on it? I’ve seen it said it’s the Canadian Peavey; rock-solid and will outlast nuclear war, but tone-wise, meh.

It’s listed to be in great condition. I haven’t gas the chance to see it, and the store has been showing it now for several weeks. No one wants the weight, I’m sure, but if the amp is capable of great sound it might be worth it.

Might be worth the drive if it's not too far. Besides, who knows what other gems they might have. Do take yer own bass to test it. Even if they have one like yours, doubtful it'd be a lefty.

Hey GP! 35 miles. It’s more finding the time to go rather than the time it takes, but you’re right, for two bills it might be worth it. Usually they don’t have a lefty so I tend to ask complete strangers to run a scale through what I’m looking for, or (and this is #2’s favorite) I just buy it unheard. Think Russian Roulette. And yeah, I have been burned before (hence the SWR end table you saw in the living room. Ah, life’s short and I can’t take it with me!

I'm kinda thinking of saving up for the Ashdown at the moment, but this is way less $ and I can get it anytime I want. Come on Traynor/Yorkville ambassadors, do yer thang!

Yes, Yorkville and Traynor are one and the same. I'm not sure what the time is like for this one, but I know the SB series has gotten a lot of praise.

There's a used Ampeg 810 at a nearby brick and mortar, and I must say it's tempting. It's tempting to run my Elf through. It's not tempting to move. Reliably informed the winky 200 watt Elf positively roars though a fridge. In this I have no doubt as the SVT has only 100 more watts. But can't actually think of a real need for one, even though I could probably have it for a song.

Tempting, isn't it? I'd love to have one of those just for the experience of standing in front of a classic wall of sound. I had a Peavey 1820 for years - 18' driver in the bottom, two 10's in the top. It sounded really really good. It was really really hard to move. The biggest cab I play through now is an Avatar 2x10. I confess I liked the 1820 really well but I don't want it back.

I have sad news to report. I mentioned in my previous post that I had trouble with my signal chain. I have singled out the problem. Unfortunately it is my Peavey Max 115. It is now dead. So I respectfully ask for a moment of silence for it.

As of now, then, a combo is not my main rig. I do have an Acoustic head and two Eden cabs. That may be my main rig for a bit. Nonetheless, I will hang around and may pickup a combo soon.

I'm making light of it because laughter is the best medicine, but I'm truly sorry you lost a piece of equipment. Sadly, Peavey has had their share of troubles with that Max version, though I believe you've had that one for a while, correct? Doc, your backup rig isn't half bad so you don't have to worry about having a rig to play with your band. Don't worry, we won't be pulling your membership card or asking you for your decoding ring back. When you're ready to forge ahead and you want to pick up a combo, we'll be here for ya with more advice than you'll probably want! Keep us up on what you find out. I'm going with burned up power supply.

I'm a bit surprised, as I thought that Heaven's were built like tanks. I'm wondering if it was running the Vox to the input of the Peavey that did it? I ran it out of the headphone jack, which I believe has now power. So I didn't think that would cause any issues. Any thoughts? I do still have my Kustom combo, but it is not my main rig. The Ashdowns have been looking quite appealing, as well as the Traynors.

I must admit that I have never attempted running amps into one another so I'm not laying out a guess, but maybe someone else has. I'm sure you're looking for a gig-ready combo and, as you know, there are literally dozens of great candidates available. If you're thinking about that new Ashdown series, it's one that interests me as well. A 300-watt fifteen that weighs less than 30 lbs? Whew. It commands a good price but might fill the bill. Otherwise, you should audition the Rumblers, Ampeg BA-series, and anything else in your price range that trips your trigger. By all means, check out the Traynors too. Best wishes, Doctor!

I had a GAS attack thwarted today. I've had my eye on a Carvin MB15 combo in my local CL. Made an appointment to go check it out today. Even put my Peavey TKO up for sale on CL to help finance the deal. Unfortunately, by the time I got there, a previous potential buyer blew it up! Sounds like he blew the speaker. Owner is stuck as he has no contact info from the guy that trashed it. I told him to let me know what he finds out as far as what's wrong. If it's just the speaker, I may shoot him a lowball offer and replace it myself. Oh, the humanity...

Hey Bigs, do you think the culprit who torched the Carvin was the same perp who done in Doc’s Peavey? Is there nothing sacred anymore?

On a side note, you may end up getting a sweet deal if it’s just the speaker and the owner wants out. Good luck!
