That Rocket is one nifty combo, and my mind wanders as I wonder about that Rocket 115

Confirmation from SW that my RB 115 shipped today!! My report should be in next week sometime!!
I’m STILL on Cape Cod- fried clams and peppermint stick ice cream in abundance- oh, and Yeungling lager…here’s young Alex posing with Daddy’s beer….

Band on Jersey St outside of Fenway Park- Max looks a bit confused! Drummer tossed his sticks onto crowd after set, and I said, “Max!!! Grab a drumstick!!!” , but he balked..

we got lots of swag at the Red Sox store!!
Tomorrow we leave Cape, will hit Battleship Massachusetts in Fall River, then catch destroyer Cassin Young docked next to “Old Ironsides” at the Charlestown Navy Yard.
Then fly out Sunday 5:00am to PHX!! Yay!!

Run a 10hz test tone through it for a few days. No one will 'hear' it but you'll give the whole neighborhood the willies.

Edited to add, don't do this if it's not rated to go that low. Don't risk damaging your brand new amp.

I love Battleship Cove. Too bad the Constitution still is unavailable as that is even better. Nonetheless enjoy our June weather. It’s what we suffer for all year.

Yes sir, it is. Just finished noodling around with it, to check to see if everything works. Running the volume to 10:00, there’s enough bass tone for you, me, and RR. It was a tad boomy in this small room, sobI used the HPF to smooth out those lower frequencies. Worked like a charm.

The tone controls offer varied combinations and without a lot of knob twirling. I’m running the Ultra Hi with the Beatle bass to give it a little more air up the neck. Probably won’t on the P, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Gave the SGT a spin with meh results. This bass, to me, doesn’t do grindy as well as the Fender will. Fuzz yes, light OD? Not as much. It’s a great warm boost though. Cranked the gain and left the grind at zero. Loud!

Overall, with a whopping 20 minutes in, its very nice. Familiar tone loved by millions (except for GP), nicely built, and Rumble light! I can barely tell the difference between this and the R100 in that department.

Need more playing and listening time on it. My buddy, the Rev, is here for the week and I’ll be using this tomorrow night. And yes, the speaker needs to be broken in a bit, but I don’t think it’ll need to be too long. It sounds warm right now.

Carvin BRX 212 combo. 800 watts, 2 - 12 inch woofers, one of which fires downward at an angle. I've had it around 16 years now and it is a workhorse. Handle, suitcase wheels and side handles. Combo-riffic !

I'll admit the RB I saw in person at GC a couple of weeks ago was a visual stunner, alright! That "diamond vinyl" really sparkles under the showroom lights!! ​

By "Rumble light" do you mean it pulses to your bass signal like the red port light in the old V1 Rumbkes?!? That is becoming so cool to me in my old age!!

Hmm...maybe I should used the word, “lite” instead, though my son owned a Fender combo when he first started playing bass that lit at the bottom like it was letting you know we were going to DEFCON 4!

I’ve been wanting to post a pic for awhile because the subject of silent practice rears up from time to time. With your nudge I’ll see to getting that done tonight.


Several folks who’ve played both the SCR-DI and the separate preamp and Scrambler pedals prefer the separates because they say that the separate Scrambler sounds discernibly better. I haven’t tried that and probably won’t unless I’m gifted a Scrambler pedal. Maybe not even then … I’m just not big on pedals.

Hi ‘Rambler, good hearing from ya. I’m in your corner on this one and have read the same about the Scrambler. It was JimmyM who commented on it many moons ago that the separate pedal kept the bass frequencies whereas the unit in the DI didn’t as well.

I hear that same thing with the SCR-DI. You turn it on, it’s too buzzy for my ears, and there’s no bass. Check please. I rarely, if ever, use it.

What’s cool is the new SGT circuit adds a little grit without the need for a bee hive. It’s not overdone from what I can tell, and could warm up a dry-sounding bass. Not a game changer, but I won’t ignore it either.

Read this as well about the SCR-DI and the separates. And gave long thought to the SCR-DI before snagging the now-retired VT Bass Deluxe. I find the overdrive on the VT Bass very useable.

What? When did you retire the VT and why I wasn’t given early notice of this? Ya know I like to stay on top of all pedal de-commissions.

I used the scrambler circuit on the SCR-DI just once. The rest of it is great!

The preamp is near-perfect for my ears. I can do the SVT tone, or more of a B-15 vibe if they’d what I’m in the mood for. It’s also great for taming a boomy speaker. In fact, the SCR-DI, until last night, has been my default DI going to the computer.

Currently, I wanna see what the DI out of the combo sounds like. It simplified things a bit and will give me the opportunity to hear the BR straight to my DAW through the Scarlett 2i2. It’s a nice setup.

Thanks for the update. Not only are you having what seems to be a great time, your new combo will be meeting you as you arrive home! Sounds like a lot fun, Tele. BTW, could you see what amp the band’s bass player was using? Just curious.
