Such a lovely looking bass, there's a 4 string in the same colour for sale here on our classified site, if it were a 5 string, I'd probably snap it up, nice bass.

With these flatwounds, I've got the midrange control probably 80% cut, treble 90% cut, bass boosted 25 to 50%, and I use the PU balance between even & just a little bit towards the bridge PU - sounds like crazy settings, but just soloing it works great.
I haven't used it with a band yet, but probably would just bump the mids and treble up just a small amount.
My EQing was not nearly so drastic with the original strings, but it was still quite mid-forward and zingy sounding to my ears (and I'm used to a StingRay 5 H).
Your A6 is a beauty!

I like the idea of flats on a fretted bass, I might give it a try, maybe even half rounds?
When my B4FL turned up, someone had fitted roundwounds to it, luckily they had a soft touch or hadn't played it much, the fretboard had minimal marking.
I'm glad your strings have given you a more defined sound.
I love the smoothness and ease of playing them.
I will probably try Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats at some point - I've heard very good things about them.
I'd like better definition without sounding tubby (which is why my mids & treble are cut so much).
I tried D'Addario half-rounds some years back, they were fine for a few months until the 'B' string's windings came apart.

It's way too loud in active mode.

I had the opportunity to try the Cort GB4 Custom. The bass feels good, it's well built too. However, being an old stock the strings were pretty old to say the least. Even then, the tone seems to have potential. Price wise, its really affordable. Am curious to know:
- how does the sound compare with the newer Cort GB4 Modern (no GB Modern at the shop for me to compare with)
- is it worthwhile to upgrade both pickups (maybe an Aguilar J/MM set) and/or electronics (more like will there be a good improvement for the sound)

It has taken a bit of playing to get used to the flatness of the neck compared to my previous StingRay 5, but I'm really enjoying playing it now and the strings have settled in very well, and I like the overall tone.
If I ever did any mods to it, I might go with a John East Uni-Pre 5 knob (really versatile preamp).
I'd also like to compare the EB Cobalt Flats to these Rotosound Flats.
They (apparently) have discontinued making these, but there is still NOS out there - if you're on the fence about getting one, I highly recommend doing so - Great Bass!

Nothing different from checking out any older active bass; electronics, truss/mechanicals and finish.
Great bass. I'm a log time Ibanez fan, yet have bought an A6 and an A5 Ultra Ash recently and they're superb.
Picked it up yesterday and tried it today at the rehearsal space! What a beast… I think many people have said this but I can’t believe the value for so little money…
It’s a 14 year old bass and you can see that but you can’t hear it… wow. I figured out that it can’t produce sound without a battery… but I don’t mind because you don’t wanna play this thing without having the active EQ on! Love the MID knob also. I’m pretty shure this thing cuts through the mix of the band all the way!! Love it!!

Yes, I've been lusting after one of these since they came out.
Love the weight, most of the wood combinations, the Nordstrand pups, & the bridge.
I don't really care for blocks & binding, but that's relatively minor gripe.
The price is probably pretty good for what you get, but currently out of my range!
Well I got a set of the EB Cobalt Flats - Holy Moly, they sound great!
The difference in tension let my neck flatten out even more, just freakin' awesome to play now.
I still have the midrange and treble backed off quite a bit for playing by myself, but I suspect that in a band context I would probably increase the mids a bit and possibly the treble a smidgen!
Maybe after the strings have been used for a few months, some of the extra zing with fade out.
This is just a great feeling, playing, and punchy sounding bass.
I suspect a John East Uni-Pre preamp would put it in competition with the very best boutique basses as far as sound and everything else goes (except for the price)!
