I'm not surprised by the positive C5 review, as I recently purchased an A5 Ultra Ash, based in very small part on the BGM review (as I'd long decided to buy it and it didn't convince me not to). Corts are massively underrated.

Glad you dug Dan's A5 Ultra Ash review! That review has me considering an A4 Ultra, myself. These are just tremendous basses, especially in the price range.

This and a few review videos from Korea convinced me to get a red C4 Deluxe which should be arriving this week. Got a very good deal from Thomann, including a case and shipping. Might get a blue C5 down the road.
What is everyone's favorite strings for their Cort's?
I'm thinking about checking out some flatwounds.
TI Jazz Flats or Rotosounds maybe.
My only set of flatwounds was decades ago - some LaBella tape wounds on a cheap Japanese violin bass.
On my most previous bass, a EB MM StingRay 5H, I ran Ernie Ball Slinky's for a few years, then DR SS Lowrider, then Nickel Lowriders, then D'Addario XL's, then DR Sunbeams.
Oh yeah, I tried a set of D'Addario half-rounds, but the 'B' string only lasted a few months before it started coming apart.
Looking back, I'm not sure why I didn't stick with the Nickel Lowriders.
Why flatwounds?
Probably just wanting to try something new.

The Cobalts are fairly zingy aren't they?
I'm looking for solid low end, punchy low mids, and articulate, but not zingy upper mid-range to high frequency.
They are not tubby like most flats sound to me. If I want them to sound like more traditional / older style flats, then I have a bunch of EQ available if needed. But it's nearly impossible to add in if it's not there originally.
The ones I prefer depending on what I want it to sound like.
Messed around with two Action Juniors last night, played finger-style. D'Addario EPS170Ss (steel) sounded very bright, almost nasa, and LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass 760FS-Ss toned this down, but not as much as you might expect.
Might try pure nickels (GHS?) on one of them some time - or just buy another Junior for those strings.
Update: have decided to Chapstick the EPSs to soften the tone a bit.
