I can't help thinking that Corts have continued to get better.

I play with fingers but for fun tried a thinnish plectrum on the fiver and it sounded really good. Some great vintage sounds to be had.

Now I've got the basses home, through my own rig, it's more apparent that the pickups and preamps are different. The GB4's are just so good, getting a multitude of classy tones. The GB75's is prone to a more bassy, full sound. That's partly as fivers tend to sound more that way. with some knob twiddling, I dialled in some great single and double pickup tones. They're different but both are really good.

That's why I love my Corts!!!

I was a few weeks ago ready to buy a Fender Jazz V or Ray35, and came back home with a GB5. Now looking for an Arona 5, as my 4th Cort. :bassist:

I saw Jeff Berlin several years ago at a BX3 concert. Loved his tone and skills. An amazingly talented bassist (IMHO).
I wonder what the street price will be?
I missed out on a Berlin sig Dean several years ago and always regretted it. Here is my second chance for a Berlin sig. I love the pickup spacing and the tone of the custom Barts.

Hey, I was reading the posts on the 7 pages of this thread, talking about head stock name snobs, so I thought this might be a good time to ask how youall feel about the Ocean name on a Laguna I just picked up, it seems to be a pretty nice bass, at least construction wise. Got it cheap because the output jack was wired backwards and it hummed when plugged in. It sure looks alot like an A4. Anyone know what the differences are, or what I could do to bring it up to the Cort specs? Are the Bart Mk1s the same as Cort uses? And is the Mk1 preamp the same? I just finished setting it up and am going to play it in a live situation this weekend.

Haven't seen or played one, but they look really nice constructed and very similar to Corts. I have that MK1 pups and MK1 pre combination on my A5 and sounds just amazing.

I really don't care about brand names, if it's a nice instrument, sounds good and I like how it plays, then is a good enough for me...

Do you guys get a loud POP when switching between active and non-active (switching preamp off/on). I'm getting that and a static sound when I brush against the plastic cover over on the back of the guitar over the electronics. I'm guessing my cover isn't grounded. Don't know how it is supposed to be, but I can tell someone was in there fooling around.

There've been a few threads on TB about a/p switching pops- just do a search: need a resistor added.
For cavity plate- there should be a small copper (usually) tab that gets squeezed between the plate and the cavity ground paint. It may have been moved out of place.

ok, thanks, I'll take a look.
Beautifully made bass, can't wait to get the bugs out and have it for my main player. Really like the fret spacing and neck size and action, too. I had never paid any attention to Cort before I picked this Ocean up and started researching and reading threads, the people who have experience with the Corts really seem to be happy with them. Not that an Ocean is a Court, but I think they are made in the same factory and appear to be almost identical in electronics and hardware, with a slight difference in the headstock shape at the top, so I'm hoping for the same experience.
BTW, isn't there some saying about the motion of the Ocean?
