The drum software thread

Does anybody think it is essential to be able to tune the drums to the key of the song?

I use a novation 909 / 808 emulator drum station which lets you tune everything with a twist of a knob and drumkit from hell in an Akai S5000.

I was thinking of getting a software but only the more expensive packages seem to allow tuning of the virtual drums and then you need another PC to run it!

As for tuning the kit, I would give it a shot. Since I do believe superior and bfd allow this without having to go to the host sequencer. I think even the mpc based drum vsti's allow this. Guru, RMV, etc..

Bassy Bill, how do you like the NY drums for Superior? Im interested in them.

Computer Music is a good magazine to get, I used to get every copy right around the time fruity loops became fl studio.

Just installed the NY Studios Vol. 2 and the Custom & Vintage SDX expansion packs for Superior Drummer. Combined with the Jamsitx kits, I now have over 40GB of drums on my hard drive. Just ridiculous. But good fun. :D

You know they just cut the price on Superior Drummer the NY Studios vol? You should see if you can get a partial refund.

Bill, I was using Superior 2 with Metal Foundry at the NY GTG.

NY Studios sample library - just excellent. The Allaire stuff in particular is one of the very best sets of samples I've heard, incredible detail and range of mic and mixing options. Just first impressions at the mo, I'm hoping to get some time to really check them out properly maybe this weekend.

Adam, thanks for the tip. I'll check the current prices over here, but I got a great deal already because I just had a major GAS attack and bought a load of stuff. Go check out my "just for fun" thread in this forum I posted last week - can't beat a nice little picture collage! :hyper:

Nice setup, you're right you do need an edrum kit, Superior works very well with it. You can use Toontrack Solo so you don't need to always have your DAW open.

Great thread.

I'm an experienced studio producer -- but a total noob at having my own home rig.

Running Logic Express 9 with Drum Core on a MacBook.

I bought Drum Core 3.0 which had a nice sampler pack of drummers & grooves to start with -- so if you want ez drag & drop audio loops (like Acid) this might be a good program for you. It also has a ton of midi kits and edit features for all you tweakers.

Recently bought the Drums On Demand "Solid Rock" expansion pack and it has a bunch of really great sounding beats. If they keep coming out with stuff like this I'll be all set for the kinds of demos I'm working on.

I've heard good things about the EZ & Superior Drummer programs -- almost wish I went with one of those first -- but hey, I got what I got -- so gonna try and make it work!

I have been writing music on Finale 08 and a cheap program called Melody Assistant for a while now. Recently I have been fooling around exporting midi files from Melody Asst and Finale, and importing them into FL Studio 8, then replacing all the sounds. The drums that came with FL Studio are aweful. Can FL Studio run all the mentioned drum packs?

Maybe because Allaire is the best drum room in the world IMO. :D

I just got "The Metal Foundry" exp for Superior 2. First I thought I don't need any more drums, since I already have Superior 1 and 2. But this one blew my mind, so many GREAT drums there, and some awesome presets. I'll definitely stick to this one for what I do.

My drum collection is 85 gigs now. :hiding:
