yeah, I definately need to do a lot more research. I've never taken a single class about electrical engineering, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to put components on the breadboard I picked up for $20 at Radio Shack in a working order.

Anyway, I'll be going by the library in the next couple of days to try to pick up some good reading material. Any suggestions that actually deal with the subject of breadboards in detail. I tried 3 or 4 books already, but all of them seemed to suggest that you needed to know all this stuff already.

The radioshack bread boards are pretty easy. Each vertical column is connected.

Notice how each column is connected but not the rows. Now at the bottom you have a red and blue lines going horizontally, these are connected and I use them as Vcc and GND.
 
Test individual stages, or build up bit by bit on vero board (stripboard.) Sometimes the only way is to build a prototype. You will get the hang of making stuff that can be modified more easily, for example by adding extra unused holes connected to ground, or the power rails so you can bodge-in extra components.

Ok. I guess my issue is that the breadboard I'm using is too short and things get really really cluttered quick. Its also a bit difficult to test each stage, as, atleast with the Phasor, a lot of components play into each other. I suppose I can just add as I test. Sorry, I'll stop rambling :D

its an overdrive pedal. On its next incarnation i think im going to leave out one or both toggle switches. I seem to use only one setting.

Okay, I think I know why I was a little bit confused. There are not red or blue lines anywhere. Invalid Link Removed is the exact one I bought. It's got 10 groups of 10 holes each on the top and bottom, with 10 lines of 64 holes in the middle, with a space inbetween each group of 5 lines.

Also, I was kinda concerned when It came with no instructions of any kind, but I figured that I would be able to figure out what I needed to know by doing some research. If I'm understanding you correctly, there are 128 columns of 5 holes each. What I don't understand is where the ground and power would be connected. Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I know what it is. I used to work at Radioshack ;)

Ok, so the row with only two columns I would treat as Ground and Vcc. The rest of the board you use like I showed you. each column is connect while each row is not.

In the first picture, I have a line of components and connected a resistor to another line.

The second picture is a resistor in series, ie. a line of components with a resistor in the same chain.

Make sense? :)
 
Okay, that's pretty much like I figured it was going to be, I just wanted to make sure before connecting everything in case I had it wrong. Thanks for the help.

Shoot, just pulled out my Radioshack bread board, and I was wrong, flip it sideways. So each row is connected and not each column. Sorry, thats the problem with working with different boards.

Fixing a power amp board of an swr amp.
Making a Mutron III clone with a couple mods
Making a Bass Brassmaster with a couple mods
Making a tonal Balance Control ( amp bh 420 ) to add to my SWR SM900, this will be real fun! And real easy!

Pedals are being built on radio-shack bread boards, wich works just fine..patience and some good tunes in headphones is all you need. =)

Actually, the first thing I ever did audio electronic wise was add presence controls to cbs bassmans. I think that was a real good start for me as I delved into tubes and never left that deep deep dark dark deep dar pit. And now im getting into pedals wich are another fun beast altogether.

Yeah? I'm having a hard time with my breadboards. Things *magically* become ungrounded. O well, persistance pays off. :)
 
Oops! I mean everybody in general to post eagle cad stuff..

Im using the breadboard with the little copper square pads..so far so good. Im tellin ya, some House music, or Madrill or even Jmaes Brown in the headphones helps with puttin this stuff together..=)

I am cheating though..Im using my brothers Weller, I can dial in the temp I need. FOr me its weller or if I had the moolah..Metcal. Metcal is the shizzle.
 
so some bad news, both book stores near my campus had no intention of buying back the chem book I was going to sell in order to buy parts to build a fuzz. So now its going to have to wait till I can sell the book on amazon.

You could always make the hour & a half drive down here to Columbia. Addams bookstore buys just about every book you can think of. Let me know in a PM which chem book it is, and I might be able to check with them to see if they would buy it, and how much they'll give you for it.
