Here is my Epi Thunderbird in Alpine White

with some modifications... Notice the white nut? I replaced the original, black plastic nut with one I hand-made using bone. Sooo much better sustain and punch now! :)

To correct neck dive but avoid drilling holes, I installed a strap button through one of the neck plate screws. I did have to enlarge the hole of the strap button and find a longer screw, but now the neck dive is gone! :bassist:

(I did left the original black strap button too as seen in the pic cause I didn't want to leave a hole or patch on the body)

And, the truss-rod cover now reads Gibson (the engraved Gibson looks so much better than the just-printed original Epiphone cover). But it IS an Epi!!

Count me in for a membership!

Here is my Epi Blackbird. It's had a rough day or 2, but it still plays pretty good for it is! I'd definetly offload it for a white thunderbird though! Used to be a modulus/musicman player really, but have fallen on some hard times and got a great deal on this one. I am thinking about modding it out a bit though....maybe adding a pickup selector switch, a new pickguard, and some good old clover style vintage tuners. I might be getting too old for how " wicked" it looks!

hey, new guy here...
does anyone know for a fact if the Invalid Link Removed pups will fit the ephi-birds without modifications? looks to me you'd at least have to get some longer screws. i'm dying to replace the stock (dull) pups on this otherwise great bass.

I don't know this for sure, but I believe the Bart's are a direct replacement for Gibson's TB's, not Epi's. I've been told that you have to do a little routing to get the Gibson's to fit in the Epi's. From what I've heard tho it's not major surgery. I've also heard of a couple of people using the Duncan Bassline's soapbar pickup (SB4 ?) and being very happy with it. There was minor routing involved with those as well. Good luck with your quest!

Anyone know where i can pick one up left handed? I'm dying for one. I have an Epi 5 string with p/j pups and the non-reverse body and head that I strung upside down for a bit but I have no use for a 5 string anymore.

I'm down for a good copy, any color, don't care if its scratched or paint is chipping as long as the neck is nice.

For real hit me up if you know where I can find them... Epiphone wont make them left handed.

Also looking to sell my Thunderbird V if anyone is interested.

Tokai makes a lefty T-Bird. They pop up on Ebay from time to time. I've heard good things about them.

thanks hansel..... compared to many of the normal body's Jackson used thru the years, the T-bird body on a Jackson was a unique thing for them I guess to see if anyone would buy one over a Gibson-BIRD. there were very few made cause they DIDN'T SELL, but for those who have them, WE know what they are...lol I still use mine as much as I can, and love it today, as I did the day I bought it almost 15 years ago now.

p.s. a fellow TB'er ( SHARK1 ), has 2 of them with pics all over this forum. A black one with a white pickguard - a cool option that he, as well as myself can't figure out who put it on, cause it was not an option in the catalog, and a sparkle green one he picked up about a month ago from EBAY. ( I would have bought it ) but I am looking for a blue one to have a "black and blue" pair..:D:D ---
( TBIRD BODY only offered for sale in the 94-95 catalog, as a alternative to the FUTURA bass )


but this thread is not for JACKSON's it is for EPIPHONES, and commenting on that, I LOVE MY EPIBIRD !!!!!! - I bought it used for 150, and it plays flawlessly, crappy stock/growly lack of treble pickups included...hehehe, but it does stay in tune forever, has great intonation, and good action for what it is, and it sounds and plays so differently than the Jackson or my LYLE SG, it is a treat to play all the time.
