Double Bass The EUB as it's own voice....

One more thing about NSD basses... again the string heights are low. You could also do hammer-on type stuff that ppl do with Chapman stick or how Stanely Jordan plays guitar.

They have a 5-stringer... a 6-stringer would be killer - the possibilities would be endless.

Really, if it were me, the NS CR5M would be my starting point.

Eberhard Weber is the one person that really matches your description. He's kidof like Jaco to me. Jaco was not playing electric bass within the sound or function parameters that existed as far as the definition of electric bass at that time.. Same with Eberhard. His sound ande vibrato inflluenced my DB concept.I first heard him live with Gary Burton in the mid 70's. The band included Steve Swallow on a Gibson EB2 < Mick Goodrick on guitar and a very young Pat Metheny on 12 string. Like Jaco, Eberhard was a horn voice as well as a bass section voice. I think the album on ECM was "The Colors of Chloe". I think that Tony Levin also qualifies as someone using an EUB (NS) as it's own voice. I am not one who qualifies in that definition. I play an EUB called Volante because it sounds more like an amplified DB. (than any EUB I've tried) I travel and need that function. I agree that trying to describe "the EUB" sound is impossible and not constructive. The range of sounds from various EUB's is so much wider than the inherent differences between electric basses or DB's due to the wide variations of types of construction and pickups.

An NS CR5M strung with spiro solos, bit of extra treble on the onboard eq, chorus and reverb will give you a convincing eberhard weber tone.

Hes been a big influence on my electronic work, and his signature tone is great when you need to cut through the mix. Such a bitey tone

That's right, Francois. The one I mentioned was his album.Also a great album. I remember hearing him in the early 90's at a fest we both played at the Red Sea festival. He was playing solo EUB. With tasteful effects. Blew me away. He didn't play with high-velocity chops, just profoundly deep musicality. By the way, I have an album of him playing bebop DB with Joe Pass. Sounds great. Came through Quebec in July. Played up north in Domaine Forget, then the Montreal festival. Maybe we'll run into eachother sometime.

"Intercontinental", a superb album indeed!
I was amazed to hear Weber play very traditional upright on the record!

I'm just an amateur, but I know the place.
I went at St.Irénée twenty-four years ago to study luthery not far from the Domaine Forget.
