Double Bass The Evolving Bassist

Just picked up a copy of the evolving bassist by rufus reid and was wondering about some of the notation. Anybody know what a curved line between two notes mean? I have only just started learning to read and I thought that just meant hold the note till the end of the curved line. But in the rufus reid book it seems to join two different notes entirely. Thanks in advance

It's a tie. It means to play make the first note flow into the next, instead of playing them staccato.

Often it can mean two notes but one bow stroke - so it's for bow users. But it can also mean a hammer on or pull off. Generally there will be an inequality of stress, the first note being stronger than the second.
