Here Is Mine!!!!

Truly amazing.
Fantastic neck profile (I went to great lengths with measurements and copies of curves with them to make sure it was right).
Freakishly comfortable on the strap.
Not heavey, but not too light. 10 lb 5 oz
Beautiful wood.
Phenomenal fit and finish.
Huge case.
Great sound.

Any chance of a number?

This is my '82 Exploiter Distillate 8-String Bass. I bought it new WAY back when. I had just seen "The Kids Are Alright" at the theater and just HAD to have one. I was into Cheap Trick at the time, so the fact it was an 8-String made it even sweeter!

My guess is that the "Exploiter AD treatment" means "Exploiter Alan Dover treatment." I say this because mine (the Entwistle Replica Series II) was the first to have the same body dimensions of Entwistle's originals. The Spyders and "garden variety" Exploiters do not have that body shape - they are definitely thicker at the "waist" and the upper horns join the body further down on the neck. You'll notice that yours joins the body at about the 19th fret or so. This is what we worked to achieve on mine as I was a former Spyder owner. The Spyders joined the body at the 20th-21st fret, and believe me, reaching first position was a challenge.

We probably ought to ask Mica if the AD treatment is in fact a reference to me. It would be kind of neat if it was! ;)

Indeed the "Exploiter AD treatment" means "Exploiter Alan Dover treatment." I was following your build as I was contemplating my own Exploiter and really liked the differences in your bass compared to the standard Exploiter/Spyder shape. I asked Susan if I could have the same and she said that since the templates were already there, no problem. ;)

Also, mine is 32", comfort taper, and with a neck profile that almost exactly matches mu '89 32" Distillate.
I had played a lot of Alembics with necks that I thought felt thick and chunky. My Distillate was thin and sleek. I took my contour gage and verniers and made measured drawings (well, sketches, really) of my existing neck and they were able to recreate it very closely.


Needless to say, I am thrilled with the results.

I have owned and played both Gibson and Epiphone explorers and IN my opinion if ya wanna play one I suggest the Alder body Epiphones made in Korea if you can find one, the neck is smooth and slim unlike the gibson i had it was like a baseball bat and a much better quality than the Chinese Ltd. Edition Korina Explorer Basses that are treble monsters with horrible paint.
