Hey guys, I just stumbled upon this thread and had to say Hi. In the 80's I owned a Alembic exploiter, it was gorgeous but weighed 11 lbs. Plus and I went back to my Fender P, after about 10 yrs. I really missed it but could no longer afford one. Anyway about 5 yrs back I found a Gibson that played really well and sounded really good also, well I still have her and get asked to do some crazy 80's music from time to time and this one fits the bill perfectly. The only thing that I did was change out the bridge for the Babicz bridge and put on a set of RS 66.
Well play on you wild and crazy guys, long live the Explorer, it's unfortunate that more people just don't understand just how comfortable that wing is! Oh, it's a 2011. Well this is embarrassing, I can't get to my pics of it, but it's just a 11 sunburst model, I will try later to get pics!

Here is my Hondo. The neck went bad so I replaced it with a Edan neck.
Bought one with a paddle style headstock because I wanted a reverse headstock.

I did not know there was an Explorer Bass Club until a few minutes ago! I built this 5 string about a year ago from a Pit Bull Guitars Kit (see my avatar). The shape is very ergonomic. This is currently my favorite instrument.

I've been wanting to try one of those Pitbull Explorer bass kits, how do you like it?
You are right, its a super ergonomic and comfortable shape, especially as I get older and my effed up neck and back get worse..........I find that slung nice and low, the Explorer may be the most comfortable shape out of all of my different basses (including but not limited to Mockingbirds, Thunderbirds, Eagles, Fender Jazz & Pbasses, Various Dean basses like Spire, Demonator & Hybrid, etc).......

Mine was set up exactly like yours, the only difference is that mine was in translucent red, and yes $1200!!

Got her case today and probably a Hipshot Xtender sometime this spring... I might go for a pick-up change as well, the logical choice for me being Thunderbird pick-ups.

How does this bass sound with TBird pick-ups ?

Good morning Explorer folks, not certain I knew this club was here. I love playing my Explorer and have enjoyed discovering new sounds it is capable of. I am looking to install Dunlop strap locks, as I have on my other basses. I believe the screws are a little longer and thicker. Any advice on adding these? Any concerns especially with the one at the heel of the neck? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank much and happy Friday!

I kept the bass for a couple of months only, just couldn't deal with that chunky neck. As for the rest, it sounded good, real Thunderbird-like and I thought the body felt comfortable enough.
