I have to shout out to Mel and of course my uncle on TB Passing Wind!
I finally got a copy of "Make Your Own Electric Guitar", second edition, #1 what a cool book, and Mel is a great and has a fantastic and unique writing style that I find very much like I was in person talking to him.
And even funnier the signature and inscription in the book:

I bought Melvin's book back in '91 when I was building my first bass (from parts).

I learned HEAPS from that book. Very informative.

I'll have to get my mom to dig it up (in her "archives" in PA) and send it over to me

Iread it from the very first ro the very last page when I got it about two months ago I guess and from time to time I go back to some chapters and re read them to have fresh in my mind some information.

As someone said here in TB it's like a guitar builder's bible!!!

it IS the bible. I bought mine in '87 while I was in high school doing cabinet making classes. I read that book inside and out for the whole year.
It took ten years before I finally started working on my first build

also bought my first copy in 87.....in and out of it so much, I had to buy the second edition in 2003 after the first one was in tatters. The fret scales are invaluable in that book and the detail of writing is wonderful. Have e-mailed Melvyn a few times, and talked with him on a conferece call with one of my pick-up builders... He is truly a hoot.

I read it front cover to cover and back, at least twice in a row. It's great!
I didn't buy it, though, because Martin Koch's book was more to my line of thinking.

Have e-mailed Melvyn a few times, and talked with him on a conference call with one of my pick-up builders... He is truly a hoot.

I'm on a private forum with him, have hung out quite a bit, and have jammed with him a few times too. His off-color stories take it to a whole other level, allsimsayin'.

At the rate Dirk's progressing, I may not ever have to learn any scary wood working skills. Hahaha...my evil plan is working!
