My guitar player is big into tube amps, and that's what he says to do - go to standby for a couple of minutes before powering off. He was watching something on the power tube glow after I switched to standby - looking for them all to dim down to the same glow I think - and then said it was cool to power off.

Whoa! This spare in Oregon who "conjures up an amalgam of folk, rock and jazz solo guitar music for the occasional intimate Portland audience" says standby switches are useless. I'll take that over what the manufacturer suggests any day!
But all seriousness aside, if you need something to do for 10 or 12 or 48 hours, google this and read all the opposing views. It's mind boggling. I'll still go with what the manufacturer suggests.

Yeah... Thats my position too. Go with what the manufacturer recommends. After all, they build amps for a living, not sleep on their girlfriends couch (like a jazz guitarist). ;)

What this guy says seems to make sense, but doesn't address any issues outside cathode stripping.

I don't know, but it seems as if the guy may have a little going for himself: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] ;) But seriously, I played a Fender Showman or Bassman 100 amps for years, and I always flipped the power and standby switches together when powering up or down. The only time I switched the standby switch alone was for breaks. I never had a problem with any of my amps. YMMV.

GOD I love this rig! Just finished 4th gig with no mains help, and the 100T/410 Neo once again blew me away. Medium/small bar, packed out with people. Again the G&L L-1000 with flats on the vintage channel sounded totally amazing. By the third set I didn't bother switching to the roundwound bass. I noticed tonight by the third set when it was nice and hot, the 100T was getting the most perfect tube distortion I've heard it do. I think my tubes have come to life. As on the other gigs by the end of the night I was sitting on channel volumes at 6, master volume at 6.
I also had a chance to experiment some with overdrive on the G&L/flats, where I normally do that with my Jack Casady Epipone/roundwounds. The flats sounded beautiful with the 100T's overdrive, extreme on a couple of songs (overdrive 7, blend 6) and lighter on a couple (overdrive 6, blend 4). It's making me have second thoughts about even taking the roundwound bass. I love the Casady - it has a very unique growl to it that really compliments the Fender rig. But the punch of the flats vs. the roundwounds is irresistible. Especially I guess with the tube amp. Anyway, I'll say again, I haven't had a rig this small or this low power since I got my 4x15 Kustom 200 watt rig when I was 15, then through the years with Kustom 4x15/400 watts, Standel 6x15/450 watts, Sunn folded 18/2x15/400 watts, and Hartke 8x10/GK 400 watts, and this Fender rig leaves them all in the dust. Of course I haven't had to really push it yet, so we'll see what happens then. But with mains help still don't see it ever having to work much harder than I've worked it so far.

+1. After the weekend I am seriously reconsidering the need to have any other amp in the arsenal. I am amazed by clout and balls the 100T has for a 100 tube watt head. Frankly, 99% of the time if I needed more grunt there would decent FOH support or an SVT backline provided.

Yea, but I still dig my Streamliner 900. I keep going back to it. I can't part with either amp.

blend at 3, but whats your gain at?

i think its a little different than the 300pro. its a little more oomphy. i use the od on th 300 with its gain about 4 and halfway blended to add a touch of fuzziness that actually will smooth out any low end spikes in my playing...it kinda rounds off the low end thumps.... the 100t seems to give more thump and girth on similar settings. its slight for both, but noticeable.
