The Fender Bassman 100T thread

Yep, tubes are often a coin toss (especially so in a new amp IME). The only issue I ever had with my my new SVT VR was a couple of preamp tubes going down. As I posted earlier, I replaced all the preamp tubes in my 100T with JJs and put Winged Cs in for the power tubes - sounds great to me and has been totally reliable (to be fair, it sounded great and had no issues before the replacement too ;).

Hey guys, i have a question for you 100T owners

Do you guys think i can get in the ballpark of this tone with the 100T?

I have a modern player Jaguar bass with flats and a friend of mine has an American standard jazz rounds i sometimes use for tracking.

The Jaguar is quite a versatile bass, but I doubt that he is using flats. The overdrive channel is very versatile, as has been said many times, so depending on your cab I would think that you could EQ close to it. Certainly that type of overdrive is available if you want it.

You can totally get that sound with the overdrive channel. It can even get nastier.

Great Tone indeed!!! Yes, you can get that with either the 100T of the Super Bassman using the overdrive channel! Enjoy !!

Ok i started on this thread from the beginning and got to about page 35 and had to jump forward as i saw nothing on this but wanted to ask. How do you guys think the 100T would sound with a Bag End D10BX-D cabinet or a Bag End S15x-D cabinet? Is anyone familiar with those. Both of those cabinets are very sensitive and i think they both have at least a 101db sensitivity rating. Just curious if i would get enough juice to play medium sized venues without FOH suport with say the D10BX-D? I don't have room for any 4x10 rig.

I miss a good all tube amplifier and am currently playing and Eden Wt550. I use to own a vintage SVT300 and that thing was a beast. Miss the blossoming tone of a full tube amp and was wondering if anyone could help with any input on this? thanks!

If you have used the Bag End D10BX-D with other amps in that situation, and it's enough cab to do the job, I don't see why it wouldn't be great with the 100T, especially with the better efficiency you're quoting. That would make it around 6dB or so more efficient than the Bassman 410 Neo that I use, so the 100T should totally cruise with that. But tone-wise I can't comment since I've never used the Bag Ends.

I ran my 100T through a pair of S15-D's and it sounded GREAT.
They didn't seem to be as loud as my TL606's with 3015's but with my P5 or Jazz with flats they sounded sweet.

With 1 15 or a 210 you will not get real loud clean with 100 watts. I would get a S15-D to go along with your S15x-D and you will have a killer rig.
The only problem with the 15" Bag End cabs is the 100T will not sit on top of them, but they do sound good.

I believe that Bag End efficiency rating about as much as I believe in the Easter bunny. Maybe at 1khz, but not throughout the bass frequency range.

Still might work well with the 100t, I'm just not buying 101db.

Thanks guys on the replies about the Bag Ends with the 100T!! Very much appreciated!! :)

Regarding the efficiency rating... i also own the large Bag End TA15-B cabs that i use for both PA band use and also for home stereo. They are rated at 103db sensitivity and at home i drive them with a SET Tube amp that only puts out 3.5 watts of power(George Wright 3.5 monoblocks). Let me tell ya those speakers crank with only 3.5 watts of power and those amps. Don't know if that translates into playing bass guitar though and the REAL power of the Fender 100T though?

I wanted to thank everyone in this thread. Your insights were so helpful to me during days of homework. Today, I ordered a 100T from Chicago Music Exchange. It's scheduled to arrive on the 8th. I cannot wait. My first all-tube amp.

I'm sure the answer to this question is buried in here somewhere, but I've been through many pages and not found it yet, so forgive me if I'm rehashing anything. For all of you who are using the 100T in full-band, medium-sized venue situations: Do you find that it has a enough clean headroom to have a decent stage volume (enough to get by if I'm standing next to a drummer and don't have a monitor) without always being on the verge of breaking up?

Aaron, I can't fully answer that for you. For one thing, it depends on the drummer and his kit plus the style of music you are playing. TreightTrain has no problems at all with being heard in this situation but he does like being "on the verge of breaking up". Others say the same. Me, I like clean and have no issues on this front with the 100T. The 100T goes louder/cleaner than any 100 watt all tube head that I have played. I also have the Super Bassman 300 head and that has oodles of clean headroom to spare with a similar tone and the same preamp section. It is not much more than the 100T and may be worth checking out also.

Took the plunge tonight also. ordered 100t from GC (just in case I want to return it). I still have not been able to play on one anywhere around here including 3 guitar centers within 90 miles. I've yet to read a negative review so going on impulse with this one. Looking forward to next week to say the least.
any advise for my inaugural jam is openly welcome. My current cab set up is Berg. HT112er / EX112er stack. There is an ampeg svt410hlf on my local CL for $400. think it's a good match?? Damn heavy 410 though.

PhatRon, I had an HT112ER until recently and used it with my 100T as a practice rig. No reason why it shouldn't work fine as a stack. Be aware that the 100T is wider than the Berg so you may have to just sit it on some extra rubber feet. I did find the combination slightly lacking in top end, more as a result of the cabinet than the amp. Easily EQd to adjust to preference anyway. I preferred the combination with my GK115 neo which has a slightly more prominent highs.
