I played all the bass classics, several rig combos and basses and just grab an SVT CL, Fridge, good Fender P. Cereal.

Fender P with an SVT and a fridge. Classic? Sure. But a classic, not the classic. There are a lot of "classic" songs from "classic" bands: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers, and a hundred more. There's no one classic tone.

My personal feeling is that we all have a sound in our heads that we're trying to reproduce in the real world. Maybe it's something you've heard on a song or at a show. But they're not all the same. You have to find the right gear, and the right settings, to make the sound in your head. Whatever it takes.

I'm glad you've found yours though.

I agree. I am too cheap to actually have an Ampeg SVT and a Fridge, and I would also have no interest in hauling one around. However, I would agree that that is the sound I am always trying to simulate. Thanks to my VT Character Deluxe I think I get pretty close.

2 band stingray into a vintage Ampeg SVT stack. I got a flat back fridge from the early 70s, still gotta get my hands on a real SVT instead of just an SVT-CL.

HEY MAN!!! Where can I get a guitar stand like that? One that hangs from the side of the cabinet. That's nice and convenient. Nice rig as well!

It adds some spring to my tone. Offixial Fender coil it is.

I used one for a while but it gave a hint of chorus or phase to my tone. Turns out it was causing my signal to spin on it's way to the amp.

That's like saying the "ultimate" ice cream is Rocky Road. Sure. It's mass appealing and MOST people wouldn't turn it down if it were offered to them.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE the classic P Bass tone through a roaring Ampeg and I'm glad it sets your soul on fire when you play.

One of my favorite Ps is fretless, so I have a somewhat less precise Precision. I play it through a Mesa Subway D-800 and SW115 cab, so now I'm really muddying the waters .

I rocked the P-bass, SVT, fridge rig for years and loved it. Alas, the one thing I didn't think would ever affect me happened: age. Sure enough, I jumped on the lightweight bandwagon and have been happily riding as a GK fan boy for a few year now. I still have the P-bass though.
