Sounds like you've solved it, but in case anyone else comes along with a similar problem, thought I'd still post this.

I'd had problems with volume drops on my SB300 lately (no crackling though), through a couple of different cabs. It's still under warranty, but thought I'd start by checking the easiest thing first - the speaker cable Fender supply with the amp. Replaced it with a new one, and whatdya know, it's working fine! Other people earlier in this thread had also mentioned having issues with their cables, so they're obviously not great quality.

I had bought a brand new speaker cable just for this amp at the time I purchased it. I figured I just needed it.

The stock Fender one now flows power from my Little Bastard.

Yep, my first SB shipped to me new with the Fender speaker cable arriving DOA.

After reading this I switched cables. You know what? More volume overall and it doesn't run as hot. Thanks for the heads up!

My fan is a little loud also. Not too bad, but it is noticeable when sitting idle alone in my practice room. Nothing that I would be concerned about though. Typical PC fan air noise.

The good thing is that at a gig I never noticed fan noise nor would I with the thunder this thing puts out.

BTW I do believe my fan pulls heat out the back of the unit, not blowing out towards the front. I will have to check again but I am almost 100% positive.
Can anyone else comment on the fan oriantation?

I think it should pull in air from the front, like every other amp I've ever had with a fan. The fan is picked up when recorded with a mic. I can get a much better fan for under $20.

My B S 300 pulls air from the front, and blows out the back. The fan is not quiet, at least twice as loud as the fan on my Fender 500v3c. Not sure if this is normal or not. It was a bit annoying at first, but when playing its not audible. In a way its reassuring to hear a low hum and know that the fan is working. that's what the 500c sounds like.

Last night at a gig out in Peoria Illinois. There is a fest called steamboat days. We were headlining, first time we were ever there. Really a cool gig.

Just be on the lookout for them and wait for a good price. I got lucky with mine, brand new in box for $1200 shipped.

I have seen used for as little as $900 and as high as $1500.

If buying local figure in tax on top of the $1799 retail price. $2000 new local brand new with 5 year warranty for this amp is worth it if you have the funds.

Got a V3 4x10 and paired it up at practice last night. Sounded good, more direct mids and a little less full bottom natively than the GK Neo 2x12, but easily dialled a great tone with the SB. Being on wheels made it less boomy in the room, I think, which was desireable.

There is a production company out in NY that had bought 2 SB300's for an O.A.R. concert. He only used one of them. The other one was BNIB. He forwarded the original receipt and signed it over to me. All for $1200.

I have found in my life that if things are meant to happen they will. I have been very focused and patient on buying gear. If something comes up that I really want or need and the price is reasonable, I will without hesitation buy it. I have learned my lesson with letting things slip through my fingers and regretting it later on.
