The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

I have not tried the Rumble bass amp yet, due to the fact that it still has the original tubes and stuff in it.. I want to get it a check up for good health and see about putting the tubes that I have in the SVT-CL in it.. that way I can sell the SVT at more affordable price.. I just had it retubed and capped.. so the buyer of that amp would have to pay for the new stuff.. I won't give it away.. but I have the tubes that were in it and I can put them back and use the tubes in the Rumble Bass 300..
But from what I have figured so far about the Fender amps, they both are Nirvana! I can attest to the fact that the SB300 is!

I used the SB & one 115 Bassman Pro Neo cab at a function at a restaurant/function centre on Sat. Beautiful as usual. Had a few compliments from audience members saying that the bass was solid and punchy.
We got pretty loud in the last couple sets too. Dance floor was packed and with PA just for vocals & a little bit of kick drum. .. I had the SB on about 8 Vintage ch vol. & 7 Master vol. Just a tiny bit of power tube break up. Glorious!

Loudest I have gotten my SB300 was to a gain setting of 7 and the master volume at 4, through those Epifani PS115 cabs.. I just smiled and smiled and smiled from ear to ear all evening long!
Had it out at a fest today and it sounded spectacular.

Spot on! That VINTAGE channel is lush. .. and if. .like a Ric 4003 and perhaps the bridge pup on a jazz. ..it's a little thin sounding. .. I just pull the bass boost control on the VINTAGE channel and it's tonal nirvana again. So simple with this amp.
It just WORKS in all aspects.
I just bought a Genzler Magellan 800 as a lightweight option (for those days where I've a gig after a full days work or gigs with bad access- stairs etc. . ) all the ppl on that thread had been talking about the HEFT of the notes on the high strings/notes etc. ... I tell ya sumthin. .. it ain't got NUTHIN on the SB. NUTHIN!!!!!!!!!! I mean. ..it's a nice amp. .. whether I think it's any better than the Aggy Tone Hammer 500 time will tell. .. but I WAS expecting actual heft. ... but. ..nup. nada... squat. Perhaps I'm so spoiled by the SUPERB Super Bassman that it'll be extremely hard to impress me. ..but the TH500 impresses me. . Not like the SB but for 4lb class D it sounds fantastic and has good solid highs on the G string etc. .. the Magellan 800 is different. Good. But. ..maybe I haven't dialed it in right yet. But definitely none of the solid thunk that the SB does with such aplomb.
There's my flash word for the day too.
I will post a version of this over in the Magellan thread too.
I really hope the Magellan does impress me more coz I did love the Shuttle amps (hated the Streamliner) and think the Bass Array cabs are terrific designs... he makes great stuff.
It's more my taste than any probs with the product.

With the Spector basses that I am using.. I don't have to do anything but run the amp flat.. the rest takes care of its self!
It likes all basses. From passive P and J to RIC and active Sadowsky, Warwick, Spectre and EBMM basses.
Yep. As I've stayed MANY times...it makes damn near any bass sound the best it can.

Had the heavy iron out last night.
Used the OD channel this time as the FOH ran just the signal straight from my bass.
I ran it in OD the whole night as a stage monitor. It sounded really good however I think I prefer the vintage channel. I guess you can't go wrong either way.

I have let GAS get the better of me and I will be ordering one of these very soon. I do have a question for all of you users and experts...How sensitive are these amps to "less than optimal" power supplies?
I play in bars and outdoors mostly and I always plug in a circuit tester that checks for ground and polarity but as we know we are all exposed to high and low voltages. How tolerant of these conditions are these amps (or all tube amps in general for that matter)?
I am not an EE so hopefully I can understand your explanation.

Well you shouldn't have much trouble understanding mine.

I've never had a problem but I've only used possibly suss power a couple times. No probs
