The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

With this SVT-CL that i have, it is "clean", but it is "woofier" than the SB300, i have not looked in the SB300 to see what pre tubes are in it, but in the CL, i had in some Ei smooth grey plates with hello getter pre tubes, some GE 12AT7 (matched) for the bias circuit and the inverter tube is also a Ei 12AX7 as well. It stays clean, no rasp or overdrive to the point i can stand it.. the power tubes are Sovtek 6550WE (matched). I can't stand the amp past 10 o'clock on the master with the gain between 9 and 10. The SB300 is just as loud but a tad bit tighter, meaty, sounds like it has weight.. so does the CL.. but just not as smoothly heavy as the SB300 is.. the way i put is that the corners of your mouth will look like they are tied to your ears all night long!

Never had anything but compliments on the DI. I'd bet it was from other causes. ...loops. ..leads. ...power packs. . ????

And when I said earlier that I've never really been a fan of the Fender tone stack. .. I meant that on the old Silver face Bassman amps. .. they'd have a sound and that was it pretty much. .. it was a great sound but not a lotta eq available really- compared to a V4 or SVT of the same era.
This Super Bassman might be exactly the same but it just sounds SO good that I can 9 times outta 10,get exactly what I need outta that vintage channel. And if I can't. ..there's a whole nother channel that IS active. But, as I said, I'm pretty much plug n play, and this amp makes this a joy.
I LOVE the fact that if I don't have FOH PA support. ... I CAN,without any worry, play up high on the D or G strings and STILL have that serious thump n heft - that all of us Super Bassman users know about. More so than ANY other amp I've ever used. Sure the low E etc REALLY thump, but playing a section of song up high loses no heft or power. .. I've used 3000w SS power amps with all tube pre amps, 1kw SS & hybrids. ..etc etc etc. .. none have this like the SB300 does. Hence me keeping a 65lbs monster. And loving it (a-la Max Smart) & (I may as well ) The Super Bassman doesn't 'miss it by THAT much' neither :woot::smug:

This is so true. This amp seriously fills the room with top to bottom and wall to wall astonishing bass tones. With the SB I never compete with any other instruments, they all have to contend with me.

Some times I can be like a selfish A hole with this amp.

Had the SB out last night. Pearl jam was playing across the street at Wrigley Field. We went on right after the PJ show ended.

Was sitting upstairs and heard most of the concert.

As usual it sounded amazing. The vintage channel is the greatest sounding EQ I have ever heard.

Must be the tubes? Heh?

Let's not forget why it's called "big iron". The transformers play a huge part in creating a tube amp's sound.
and I'm surprised I don't see my son and his GF in the pic. Apparently there were there after the P.J. concert. They probably were hanging at the bar :-)

Very cool your son and his GF were there. We estimated about 600 people were in the place and we packed to the fire limit. The pic I took was in front of me as there were plenty more people off to the sides of the stage. We play there quite frequently and they always have a great crowd.

I hope they enjoyed the show.

BTW, we are a Foo Fighters Tribute band.

Nice, I've been there and it's a big place! I live pretty close by, I could hear the PJ show from my apartment.

Posted a couple of weeks ago that I used the SB300 in the studio to record a new single. Just got it back from mastering (at The Blasting Room in the US), pretty damn happy with the tone! Used the clean channel for all but the outro, bass 5, mid 7, treble 2 - so much power behind it. Kicked in the modern channel at the end for some dirt and mid-boost. About to hit the road for an Australian East Coast tour next month too, the Bassman will definitely be coming along for all the shows.

The engineers were also loving it. Can't wait to get the mix back.
