The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

I hated the pre on the 1200 & 600 pro. too scooped out. the 300 pro is more even and by far the most versatile amp I've ever had, and one where the versatility sounds great on many many settings.
Just to clarify things for those who might be reading this for the first time: the 300 Pro and the Super Bassman 300 are different amps. The SB300 is a totally new Fender head and the subject of this thread.
can't u boost and/or cut the mids with the sweepable mid knob(s) on tb1200
I understand that that the tbp1 is allegedly a top notch preamp and is supposed to be same as one in the tb1200?
yes..BUT being the classic fender tone stack, "flat" is something like bass and treble on 1 (out of 10) and mids on 9. in other words, boosting the mids almost to their limit and cutting the rest to it's limit get you a "flat" tone. you can only lose mids from there. I had the tbp 1 and couldn't stand that. some guys LOVE that eq. I don't. yes, I could get some delicious tones from it, but I felt like I had a very limited range I liked.
on the sb300 and the 100t channel one is basically the classic fender stack as well, but I found, and others have as well that "flat" was more like bass and treble on 3, and mids around 8 maybe. gives alot more range, and perhaps it was just me, but I think perhaps the tubes made the mids seem richer giving the amps a delicious tone. I hated the pro/tbp, but i love the classic channel on the sb and it's little brother. weird.

Flat is 2-10-2 when using the Fender tone stacks. Basically its boost cut boost. I wasn't really much a fan of the Fender "Pro" heads, but I can see why one would be.
thanx everyone.. I don't mind a scooped sound, provided there is a sweepable bell curve (I reckon ya'llz are referring to the mids) Does the Super Bassman 300 have a sweepable mid? anyone!

2/10/2 bass/mid/treble refers to the numbered control knobs NOT o'clock positions.
There IS sweepable mids but only on the channel 2 (modern or overdrive channel)- tho both modern &/or overdrive are not a great names, coz it's far more versatile than simply modern tones or driven tones. You can make ch2 sound the same as ch1 if u like, or blend in some drive, or boost those sweepable mids for a very aggressive tone...

where do u find these specs?
no.. channel one is flat at those positions.
channel two is flat-ish closer to 5's on the dial.

XLR output contains both the pre-amp and the power amp signal, which makes it ideal for capturing rich power amp tone straight from the XLR output.
Does this apply to the Bassman super 300? never knew that sound(from Power section could be sent to xlr DI out!
anyone know how good the pre-out from one of the new Super Bassmans sounds into a different power amp and if it puts out pre and power section amp signal tone(s) like the DI allegedly does?

The review stated a comment on the DI being a desiign compromise of some sorts that it Blended in sound from power section on the post DI setting, as if it wasn't a good thing to send to FOH and was mainly for recording.. mmm confused
Played the sb300 + 610 last night at church (overkill, I know).
First of all, it was great seeing everyone's eyes bulge as I set up this bad boy. Amazing look and like I said complete overkill for a Catholic Church service...even if it is the Saturday night contemporary music. In addition to vocals, we have piano, acoustic guitars, and drums. I used my Fbass VF5 on the vintage channel.
The sb300 fit in beautifully. Huge sound. Everyone says the weight behind the notes - I didn't really know what that meant until playing. While it has great muscle/weight, it also responded to my playing (dynamic and uncompressed). I could thump softly then dig in when i really wanted some thunder! I was on the vintage channel so very big bass but surprisingly no boominess. My fills on the upper register were not lost and rang so sweetly. Lots of compliments on the new rig and tone.
This is the sound that I've been hearing in my head for years. Until now, I've been close but no cigar. I'm finally there. SO pleased that I picked up this amp and cab! Thanks to all the great reviews / recommendations on this board. I bought it w/o ever playing one which wouldn't have happened w/o this board!
