If it works it works I reckon, Rod;). I will be following your lead this weekend and using the SB 300 this time with the Berg NV115. The nv115 works so well with the 100T that I have not been tempted to use the 300 so I am looking forward to it.

Yes. You're a lucky man Tim1 with both these Bassmans.
If I did have the 100T there's no doubt I could use it for 75% of my gigs AND I'd have less weight to cart about. But it's that other 25% of the gigs I was worried about.
I couldn't afford both (I've got the 78 Studio Bass 200w amp anyway) & do the SB300 won out.
I don't mind the weight, but I admit running 100w harder would be nice a lotta the time.
Small price to pay when the SB300 sounds SO good.

For what it's worth, I appreciate the 100T much more going into the single NV115 and it is one great amp - but if I had to make a choice I can say categorically that I would take the SB300 over the 100T every time. The weight difference is not great and there is just no substitute for power and more power IMO :D

I found, like Tim1, that the vintage channel Bass-6, mids-8 treble-6 gets as close to the SVT-VR that I was considering that it's uncanny.
The modern channel will do it too, but has blendable drive and more options in the sweepable mids too.
That and the ability to switch between channels by foot, and it's 15lbs or more lighter, and the tube bias feature and. ... Well just seemed a no brainer to me.

But, yes, imo it sounds as good as the GREAT sounding SVT-VR but WITH far more options.
I don't think SVT's sound Anemic at all, I love em. But this amp can do all an SVT does and far more.
That's my story anyway.

When I first bought the SB300 I still had my SVT VR and was able to compare the two side by side. I sold the svt as the SB300 could near as dammit cop the svt tone and was considerably more versatile for my purposes. Both are obviously real powerhouses. It is interesting that the sb300 shares the same power tubes as the svt and now the new Ampeg V4B shares the same power tubes as the Fender 100T. :hmm:

Interesting pre amp tubes too Imo.

Just ONE pre amp 12ax7 for channel 1, another for channel 2 then a ax7 & at7 in the power amp. Seems VERY simple to me. But, I'm certainly no expert in these matters.
Seems that the SVT & VR have a lot more pre tubes.
What gives there I wonder? ???
Obviously you don't NEED lots of pre tubes for great tone as the SB300 sounds flat out gorgeous, tubby, fat, thick n gooey.
Is the fact that it IS so simple in this regard reason for this luscious tone? ?

IME/IMHO, you can dial in a very SVT-ish tone, but you can also get pretty close to the classic Fender Bassman vibe, as well. It has a lot of tonal flexibility, and you can make it quite full sounding.

Volume-wise, it's very comparable to my '74 SVT.

Mine's out for delivery right now. :hyper: I got it for 15% off during the MF Labor Day sale and they finally got some more in stock.

Going to be using it with an Berg AE410 (probably with tweeter off) in addition to the before mentioned Bag Ends.
