The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

I've not had any bad experiences with tubes- in 40 yrs!!:woot: But sure, tubes ain't what they used to be. Almost nothing is. Apart from this great amp.
Agreed- with the minimal difference that power tubes make on the sound I'd just go with the most reliable set that you can afford.
I've had MY SB300 for a year and have had a couple of 'temporary' orange lights on the bias lights but the amp seems to re do itself and is still fine. If it were any other tube amp I've had over the last 40 yrs, I simply wouldn't know about it and would be using it as normal- pretty much as I am now. :cool::cool:
I think with a tube amp. .. If it sounds good, it is good holds true.
Dunno what shirt I'll get when replacing power tube time comes, what're some of the recommendations?

I noticed that Telefunken has their own line of tubes, including 6550's. Wouldn't be too surprised if they are re-branded Russian tubes. I've been meaning to call them up and ask them about the new line. I will say this about TF tho, I've dealt with them for years and know most of them from NAMM hangouts. whatever it is they are selling won't be shite.

Snap, azwhofan! I used the same rig on Saturday - SB300/neo 610 with my 2011 4003. I usually partner the SB300 with a Bergantino NV215 which is great (any tube amp partnered with a Berg NV is magical:)) but it made me realise that there is a real synergy between the neo 610 and the SB300, as well as looking so sexy together. Mind you, I did sell my Berg NV610 after buying the Fender neo and comparing the two! Never thought I would do that, but the Fender could easily cop the Berg vibe with a little eq plus a whole lot more.

I used the OD channel because I wanted the ability to sculpt the mids. I did not use the OD at all tho I was tempted to kick some in just for giggles tho. Settings were Bass 6 Freq 2 Level 4 Tre 5 MV 5. Later in the evening I started messing with the mids levels and ended up with Freq at 3. I also pulled out the Treble knob but kept the same level.

I'll tell you one thing tho, that setup really showed me the importance of using proper technique. I'm just getting used to using a pic (small form factor and hard) and how important it is to hit those strings just right. I'm also learning to do the Geddy/Jameson thing were you use up and down strokes with just your index finger. Quite happy with last night's results, but there's tons more work to be done!

Last tidbit: fresh Rotosounds make a huge difference!

Similar. Hard to say accurately as I've not REALLY tested the Bassman 115 as I have my 3015 loaded PF115HE's.
But it handled a pretty loud pub gig well. As it wasn't mine, I also didn't wanna really push it.
I have run my 3015's pretty hard with the Super Bassman and I feel pretty confident they'll handle a darn Lotta juice.
I'll be able to answer more after the next 2 weekends as I'm borrowing his 115 for these few gigs coming up.
I'm actually hoping to buy the Bassman 115 off the guy and then grab another, as it looks so cool with the Super Bassman 300 on top. :):):)
I'm wondering what drivers are in the Bassman 115 neo too? ??

PS. I didn't have the tweeter on at all either, so that's another element of like to try.
