The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

Sounds great! Really only need one though. I was using a genz benz shuttlemax 12.0 loved it, but it was just too much power. So what do I do? Yep , super bassman! I was going to get the 100 t but got a smokin deal on this one brand new. I'm happy I did, I just love it! The sounds from the OD channel are amazing. Love the mid control knobs on that channel. the head pares well with the orange 115s, I have yet to really let this sucker breathe, but I can imagine it's not going to be lacking for headroom! LOL!

I reckon you'll LOVE the SB300 from the very 1st note. It's that good.
Plus it sounds great at low volumes. I use mine thru just 15 (8 ohms) regularly.

Hey 300'rs. I've recently decided I'm getting this amp. By this though, that's my question, I see some saying 300, super bassman pro, 300 pro (??no??)...... I want the super bassman 300. Is there a difference between the super bassman 300 and the pro??

There is an older Fender that is called the Bassman 300. Which is also a very nice 300 tube bass amp.
You could just refer to it as the Super Bassman, I think the 300 is what confuses some folks with the older one.
There is also a Bassman 100T that is a 100 watt version of the Superbassman.

The 300pro is bigger, blacker, and you can see the tubes. Its a monster! Its actually the one I prefer, as long as I dont have to carry it!

Since some of you have had this amp for a bit now, how have the tubes been treating you? A TB buddy just reminded me that some tubes can last 30 years, some can last 30 days. Have many of you needed to replace and tubes in your SBM's yet? The only downsides I see to owning an amp like this is the fact that tubes do go bad and the weight. Which is customary for tube heads. And at 65 lbs isn't that horrible for a tube head. This will be my first tube amp. I believe it's going to be a wise decision. I can't say I'm a vintage type of guy, so that modern channel is what really grabbed me. I like the fact that you can have a vintage tone and with the flip of a switch you can have a bright aggressive modern tone. Win win in my book.

I've had mine for over a year (I bought it from a TB'er) and I haven't had any issues with the tubes. Sounds great!!
Gregmon79, imho the P bass in your profile pic will sound incredible played though a super bassman. It'll be a wise decision that you won't regret.
I've had an SBM for about a year and haven't had any tube concerns. Stable green bias indicators everytime.

Awesome. Thanks for the replies fellas. Im going to Chicago Music Exchange this weekend with my basses and possibly my board. Im going to try a few amps out and see where it goes. Ill report back here on Sunday probably and let y'all know what I think. I really do think the SBM is THE one for me. We shall see...........
Had my rig for almost a year and a half (already! my how time flies!!!). Never had an issue with the tubes. I use the head pretty regularly. Maybe 2 to 4 hours a week practice time, and two gigs per month.
BTW, it makes a great practice amp too. sounds great at bedroom levels no matter what cabs I run it through.

65 lbs for a tube head isn't that bad for a 300 watt tube head. An SVT, Peavey 400, Marshall etc are considerably heavier. Besides you can always eat more potatoes.

True. Last weekend I played it with my SVT-15E (with a Fender grill cloth). I only had to lift it out of the back of my car, place it on the cab, and wheel it into the venue. Did the opposite after the gig. It was quite easy.
