Loves me that "Bumble Bee" yellow and black.
I'm trying to get a handle on just what the overall attraction is here, and have to say that for me it's the simplicity of the original design. i.e., single pup, coupled with the playful colors of the group you first posted.
Earlier, I suggested the straight, rather than angled cut of the PG, as debasser has also mentioned, though the angled cut is in keeping with the playfulness that I think is essential to the original appeal (for me). A Darkstar would work well a straight-cut PG.
I, for one, don't care for the two-color pickup, nor for the reverse placement. A standard P pup in black on a limited choice of PG colors and the bright "Fiesta" color scheme, and I can see a market supporting the $400 to $600 range. That would be when you move manufacturing overseas.
Fun, simple, accessible. Use a good tone wood (alder), and a reputable after-market neck (Mitey Mite, All Parts), along with a choice of pickups (1/4 pounder, EMG, SD Antiquities), and I'd be in line for one.
