That's a GREAT-sounding fretless formula. I recently played a somewhat rare G&L Climax fretless. The Climax is similar to an L-1500, but with a sculpted heel. Like yours, it had a natural finish and unlined board. I would have bought it on the spot but a customer was on the store's phone at that very moment and put money on it before I set it down.

i'm now a believer in the sweet spot humbucker design (I just bought an L-1505 fretted) and will keep my eye out for an L-1500 fretless, or Sterling or Stingray if I could afford it.

Did you ever consider a Lakland 55-02 or 55-94 ? You get not only a humbucker in the sweet spot but also a jazz single coil in bridge position AND the option of splitting the 'bucker into single coil.

Not too sure, but I don't think I have joined yet....

In any case, here are my two qulifications

My homebuilt, finished about two months ago, and also my first fretless...albeit with training wheels. I am beyond happy, and I am already building my HH fretless (this one has mighty mite p/ups, which are awesome passive, the active is a bit intrusive)

A cheap Hohner I defretted myself. I also painted the pickups as they were rusted to no end....but I have ended up replacing them completely with black pickups again. I think this one will be a gift to a young aspiring player in the near future...I just cannot get my head around four strings...

Are those sidemarkers permanent (under a finish layer)? Just curious. That's a pretty nice looking defret.

I have a huge question for all you Fretless players :

I have some options and I would like the experts to help me make my mind :

I have $550 dls

I gave a thought about maybe building a fretless P bass from Mighty Mite parts and that is $530 aprox. (full with hardware & electronics)

I also considered buying a Squier CV P bass and changing the neck for a Mighty Mite
$450 aprox

And last but not less I considered instead of buying another bass maybe buying a bigger amp ...

and well I can't make my mind ...so any help would be appreciated greatly

That is not a defret. It's was my understanding that that we the way it came stock. The markers are two-toned as you see them with the lighter maple like ends as indicators. The remaining part is dark and well blended.

Sweet! Those 2-tone markers are very unique. Nice work there.

this is my Prince modified, bought it fretted in 2001 with rosewood fingerboard, and now became fretless since 2007 with ebony fingerboard, another upgrades on pickup, preamp, monorail bridge, neutrik lock.

and this baby was sent back to the workshop, i'll add a single coil pickup for the neck and repaint to candy apple red

I might already have a number...I really don't get into that. What I am into, is my newly converted '03 MiM P-bass. It's got a Warmoth neck that was epoxied by Brian Lewis. It looks gorgeous and plays as nice with R.Cocco nickel rounds...
