My '76 P- bass I defretted and stripped around '92 and was my only bass for around 10 years.

My two fretless babies: ASAT Semihollow Fretless with ebony and fretlines followed by a Cort Artisan Fretless with unlined rosewood with aftermarket USA Barts and preamp.

Cort Action bass, I defretted and refinished. Just waiting for a pickup before the electronics get put together and then I will own my first fretless!



P.S. I learned a lot from the stripping and refinishing, maybe in a year or 2 I'll try to pick up a used squier CV or VM of some sort for a similar project, and not mess up so much this time.

well, its korean made, it's a cheap bass, bought on garage sale for $30, the condition is awful, the fret, tuner, bridge, pickup pole piece, all rusty and dusty.. i came to my friends, a luthier, i changed almost everything except the body and the neck...
throw away the fret, replace the fingerboard from rosewood to ebony, customized the pickup and preamp, etc as u can see in the pic, now it's sound awesome, i took it for my recording session, hell yeah it's sounds good!!

What about a previous fretless owner who is in the market for a new one?

My old one was special to me. It wasn't the world's nicest bass but I re-built it with everything to my own specs. Originally it was a horrible yellow colour with half a scratch plate, 3 of 4 saddle screws on the bridge were gone and it didn't work when plugged in. I re-painted it glossy white with a matt black scratch plate, matt black 2 pin machine heads, Seymour Duncan vintage P-bass pups', fender bad ass II bass bridge and flats. It sounded nice for a guitar I re-built myself and had great sentimental value to me. This time around, I think I will buy one - I am having evil thoughts about a Warwick 5 string fretless.

I sold my old baby almost 3 years ago, and I still kick myself for ever getting rid of it. I dearly miss that guitar more than any other I have owned and probably any other bass I buy in the future. This is the only picture I have left of my fretless...ignore my pose, this is saturday night hi-jinks from a few years ago.

Soo...do I get a number?

Well, I think I've gone over the deep end....

A few weeks ago I bought a Ibanez GWB-35 and really liked playing fretless, so I started finishing up a Warmoth Deluxe 5 fretless project that has been stalled for a long time - then I found a great deal on a GWB-1. So, on Monday I will have:
GWB-35
Warmoth Deluxe 5
GWB-1
plus my fretted basses!

I'll be selling the GWB-35, so I won't post a pic.

Here is the Warmoth -
still need to buy some black tuners. Ebony fretboard, Duncan stacked Jazz pickups, Audere preamp....

Well I've finally decided to go full fretless

well, as said earlier I will go full fretless and I will end up selling or trading my ray34 that is my only fretted bass...I am considering (but I don't really like fender) get a standard fender J fretless in red wine and throw in an audere preamp (I don't sweat money)...

any advice on an average priced but great Fretless Bass?

Thanks for the add. That bass is pretty amazing. It was on the wall at the Carvin Hollywood outlet for quite a while. Probably a custom job built for somebody else, it has the "Hard As Nails" unlined fingerboard. It got red-tagged at a clearance price when I came in to get me a birthday present. It has a dark, woody sound to it, but it sustains forever. Perfect for my musical needs.
