Our drummer uses a Roland kit at church and for the cover band. Our "acoustic" noise is clicking drum heads, singing and acoustic guitar. So nice not to do drum sound check, or anyone really. I don't know that I've changed my IEM mix for months. We play a time so FOH can get dialed in but that's about if. Our sound check is about 5-10 minutes.

Same here. Of course it helps when you have engineers who are actually professional engineers working in the big studios.
Yep. Doesn't hurt to have some tube goodness in the signal.
Racks provide great protection, and when they're under 4 spaces they're pretty convenient. In some of the environments I have the privilege to play in, (lol) I would never have a big expensive pedalboard on the ground, particularly with tubes poking out. For club gigs I need a power amp anyway. For my IEM gigs, the P-15 is the ticket.
Welp! As noted before, I'm using a combo of Linden EQ and Particle Accelerator for tone shaping....
...and just ordered a Rupert Neve RNDI. The phantom power aspect should actually be ideal for my uses!
I was using the Darkglass Vintage Ultra v1 for DI, but more and more frequently was using it minimally or bypassing it entirely, and am also using it for direct guitar and keyboards into the B173. The EQ on it is powerful but also really easy to dial in badly, and it doesn't allow for pre-EQ thrupass when engaged.
I don't have the money to throw at a stack of pedals and modules, so advice here + my own research led to grabbing that there Rupert Neve box. I'll keep y'all updated on how it shakes out!
And I think the Vintage Ultra's getting released into the wild if things go as expected....

If you play frequently with a band that rolls in its own stage racks, a rack pre can be more convenient. I've got an Aguilar DB659 in my event band's stage-left rack, along with digital stagebox and headphone distribution. I'd considered racking a UA 6176 there instead, but for live use there comes a point of diminishing returns. (The DB659 was mostly sitting around my home studio not getting tons of play, but if I had a 6176 living full time in that band's stage racks, there'd be times I'd begrudge not having it available for other uses.)
For my money, once you're in the ballpark of a U5, REDDI, 2DI4, etc, then pre/DI swapping is mostly about a feature set or the convenience of a particular form factor—not about quantum leaps in sonic quality.

Shaw and Alix came in yesterday itll take a while to get a feel for both units but even without toooooobz the Alix is very nice. I agree with @scubaduba and his prior comments regarding this.

Have been using my Useful Arts BF-1 for recording lately. Its so sweet. So surprised this unit isn't popular here. I guess small company with extremely good DI's and EQ's. Tube goodness. Its not a Mic Pre but a Pre/DI. Very much like the Nobel but to many who used it's a great challenger

Not going to lie. I like clips of the REDDI and the Khan, but I like m the look of the REDDI, even though the Khan is maybe a friendlier form factor and has an effected 1/4" out. The REDDI sounds good and looks bad ass.

I wonder if the affected signal of the REDDI comes through the 1/4" as well like the Khan's does. That might be the only deciding factor for me, given that they both sound so swell. Really, I think with any of these higher end tube DI's that Scuba has been reviewing, you just can't go wrong. They're all varying degrees of awesome. Find a deal on one of them and you're set.
I have a Useful Arts BF-S and Khan DI inbound...Khan arriving today, and UA next week. Looking forward to comparing the two—they both have tube-effected 1/4" outs.
Ruled out the REDDI, because of the 1/4" out—no tube effect, afaik...
Call me shallow. The big red box looks killer. It does not have a 1/4" effected out. The Khan does. However, I could convince myself that when using my amp (maybe 4 gigs a year) that the tubes in my LA-1A are enough to warm the Genzler MG350 combo and when using an amp there really isn't a NEED for a DI...right?
Also, I think any Tube DI I use will have it's own power so I probably wouldn't mount it on my board. Just set it up next to it. Leave my Nano board for tuner, comp and IEM's.
