I can't believe this thread has gone up to 4 pages . Ok, let's play "What have we learned"...

- Gripmaster... BAD

- RSI, CTS... VERY BAD

- Camel_spit... GIRL (not to mention a widely known feminine nomenclature)

- Briefs... Some call 'em "tidy whiteys", some call 'em "tighty whiteys".

- Fretting... motion should come from wrist, forearm, and biceps, and not fingers.

- FGENUS = FUNGUS.

- JT shoplifted Chris's avatar from the hallowed halls of Bunny Bass (Fred's not the least bit jealous).

- High Action... BAD (unless you like high action or you happen to be WILL LEE, in which case its NOT SO BAD)

- Double Bass... All bets go out the window.

- Bad technique... It's all Flea's fault!

PS I don't think Flea's necessarily responsible for bad technique - just the idea that you have to "work out" to be in a band. Oh and I'm sure he's at least partly responsible for all the people wacking basses in music stores, in a misguided attempt to be "funky"! You know... that tune that Stevie Wonder "covered"!

But...but I thought bad technique was FiElDy'S fault, and that bad UNDERWEAR was Flea's fault. Did I miss something?

You guys must have some puny displays or you have different preference settings because this thread from where I sit is only 3 pages long.

No Bruce, since you failed to provide emperical evidence of your action, I must conclude that your action is in fact the same action that Will Lee uses. I would also suggest you go buy yourself a machinist ruler, get down on the fret level and get to measuring.

As I was saying to Chris, I was just lampooning a trend I have noticed amongst the younger generation to take the view that you need to be as "pumped" as say Flea - to play bass properly. So in shops you see them really wacking basses and grunting and straining.

I never measure action as such, but my view is that if it is requiring a lot of effort to hold down strings with your left hand, this is more likely be as a result of too high an action, rather than the fact that you need to embark on a full work-out programme for your fingers!!

I can appreciate that on DB you are having a direct impact on the sound - one of the reasons I haven't taken this up yet - but on BG my view is - why make life hard for yourself ?

If it can have a direct impact on the sound on a DB, a reason to "make life harder" on the EB might be the same.
