You really think so? I could see it being maybe a sample library but that didn't sounded synthesized to me.
I have a black Nathan East sig BBNE2. When I first saw the video, I immediately thought the tone sounded like my Yamaha without ever knowing it was actually Nathan playing on the song. Having said that, I think you can get close to that tone with a CBC series Bartolini soapbar and a Glock preamp. You can really get that tone with EMG HZs (despite that many people hate on them) but since they aren't the size you need, I say try a CBC Bartolini with a Glock pre and treble rolled off a bit.
By the way, the Yamaha Nathan East signature bass does not have Nordstand pickups in it. It has proprietary Yamaha humcanceling jazz style pickups
"Soapbar" is just the shape of the case...

I know, which is why I posted a clip. I specified the shape because that's what shape the routes on my bass are.
hey i was worried about my 95 thumb bass sounding weak due to the bass lines soap bars but i was wrong, way wrong. ive enevr heard a bass like this before youd be surprised. i say try em out with a good 3 band active eq and youll like what you hear
