You'd need a total monopoly on the local area to require 2 weeks and no after-hours. Virtually impossible to pull a move like that in or near an urban area. Gotta remember your competition because they'll take your patients and eat your lunch if you're not careful.

Last time I had to visit the doctor, I scheduled an appointment at my main office, they couldn't get to me till next morning, I found another place, they scheduled me for 2:00, I said screw that, went to a nicer hospital, walked in sat for 2 mins and went in. Options are nice

Same old story! I spent 4 hours in an ER with a dislocated shoulder! Your dads symptoms should not have been ignored for that long! I'd be suing if he did not come out of there with no ill effects!

The hospital I left last June has been experiencing serious financial setbacks, and has thus decided to implement a financial improvement plan to reduce expenses. Among the many points in a memo sent out by the CEO was this one. It is in response to a question about 'charity care', services not paid for....

Yes, we experienced about $4.7 million in charity care and unpaid bills last year. While we will still treat everyone from our 15-town service area, regardless of ability to pay, we are instituting a policy—for non-urgent care—of screening patients who cannot pay from outside our 15-town service area, in an effort to decrease our losses.

I had the privilege of spending five or so hours in my local hospital Monday night into Tuesday morning. My father complained of chest pain, slurred speech, and difficulty walking, so I drove him in. My father is old school, and absolutely, positively, demanded no 911 or ambulance ride.

Upon arrival, I found it so very interesting how people define a medical emergency in 2013. We sat around people who didn't "feel good". A young lady near us thought she might have the flu. One lady was there with her four kids, and she was having knee pain. Another man hurt his finger in the car door when he closed it. I overheard a woman talking to her daughter about a vaginal infection. In came a woman who had a sore back. Later in the evening a couple came in who wanted someone to clean their ears out since it was hard for them to hear. One guy thought he had gall bladder problems and wanted an operation to fix them. Maybe it's just me, and I don't get what a medical emergency is. Maybe I was just hyper sensitive because of the condition of my father.

That's the reason so many hospitals have closed. The one close to me closed in '06, mainly because of low patient count, but also because the ER was used by people who didn't go to clinics.
