Strings, you say? STRINGS? How gauche. I am an artiste, this project was purely an aesthetic excercise, I never intended to actually PLAY the bass, why the very idea...... fuggit. Slapped some strings on it. IT WORKS! Makes convincingly Ric-ish noises with switch and knob fiddling. No crackling or buzzing either, so the soldering gods have smiled upon me. Many thanks to @Aceonbass for the wiring advice! Needs a complete setup, of course, I'll start that tonight, but it plays with no fret buzz, and I haven't touched the trussrod or bridge adjustments. Here it is on my front stoop in 8 degree weather at sunrise:
And here in front of the other bit of woodworking that took me three years to build, a Stickley Morris Chair in q-sawn white oak. I think my wife is just glad to see me finish this so I can get on with some interior painting projects!
I still have to finish the TRC, waiting on a chamfer bit and some decal paper for laserjet printer. I suck at photography, but I'll try to get some glamour shots when the TRC is on. Consider this my last teaser before the end.

Gloss black is perhaps the most difficult finish to execute. Well done.
Thanks All! One thing I noticed immediately is a BIG difference in output level between neck and bridge pups, the neck being much quieter. The neck pup is already nearly maxed-out height-wise (limited by the rubber grommets around the pup screws), but you can only lower the bridge pup so far before the big chromed plastic cover comes in contact with the strings. I bought one of the Tubeampology chromed ABS Treble Bezel infills for the bridge pup, probably have to put that in to get the pup low enough to balance out with neck pup. I don't remember having that problem on my old 4001, so maybe it's particular to current hi-gains.
One other setup question, the bridge saddles came with very shallow notches pre-cut in them, not much to keep the strings from popping out. Is there a rule of thumb on how deep they should be cut other than "deep enough so the strings don't pop out"? I'll intonate before I do the witness points.

What would happen if you were to remove the rubber grommets from the neck pickup to gain some height? Then tweak the bridge pickup output to match?
I've read other Ric players have had to do that, it would add maybe a fat 1/16" or 3/32" to neck pup height, not much, but maybe enough? I think they include the grommets to prevent you cracking the pickguard.
One other bit of good news, at least so far, I didn't notice much if any single-coil hum through my little Roland cube practice amp, and that's sitting right in front of my computer with LED screen. Maybe the shielding helped a bit after all. My old Peavey Mark III bass head is toast, needs a re-cap that would cost more than the amp is worth, so I'm ampless at the moment. I'll have to give it a try through my son's Rumble 30.
Although my neck pickup isn't a 'real' Ric item, cranking it up too far would warp the pickguard, something to watch for.

In pickup world, I’ve found 1/16” to 3/32” to be a fairly significant amount.
I can’t tell you anything in regards to the pickguard. I’ve never set up a Ric before.
