My wife just brought home a jar of them. But they're shaped like an egg that comes to a point. Or a 3D raindrop.
Doesn't seem like a good shape for applying finish. I was picturing little foam disks.
What do yours look like?
Seeing the pics of the cavity in that other thread made me ask myself...
I temporarily lost my Mojo on this build, after several attempts at finishing the wipe-on poly on the face, i had some kind of adhesion problem, not sure why since I grain filled with Zpoxy and did a couple wash coats of shellac over the cocobolo, but... it is what it is... I'm probably going to have to sand back to bare wood and try again, at least on the front, and so far haven't summoned the will to do it. In the meantime, an Epic Kitchen Renovation requested by She Who I Adore could no longer be delayed. I'll get back to it in a month or two when I'm done butchering the Kitchen. Thanks for asking, Build Ain't Dead Yet!

We're gonna need a build thread on the kitchen tho. 
It’s been on “hiatus” for a while due to finish mishaps and overall loss of Gumption and Mojo, but I will finish it! Turns out it’s harder to get finish to stick to cocobolo, even when it’s been grain filled with epoxy and wash coated with shellac, than I thought. Frustrating.

Sorry, I missed your post while I let this one languish. I used foam makeup applicators from CVS to apply poly, they are circular, around 1” diameter. Most drug stores have something similar in the makeup department, but I use 1/2 of the pad at a time, so get two coats per pad. They have ones shaped like triangles and wedges that are good for tight corners too, though I didn’t use them much coating this bass.

Apparently you don’t suffer from borderline finish OCD like I do! The blemish in question is the size of a dime, and yet brought the whole build to a screeching halt, pathetic really.
I get it. I can have a flaw that no one else can see and my wife says the instrument should be in the Smithsonian but all I can see is what looks to me like a moon crater in the body. One day at a time, my man!
My wife tells me that I need to stop pointing out the flaws in my work, because nobody but me would see them. It's a struggle to learn to be happy with your own work, one I'm still battling with.
The frustrating part, is it looks perfect... until you start buffing or wetsanding this one little area (right on the front, of course), and finish seems to cut right through, leaving what looks like a big sanding scratch. I'm mystified. All I can think is it's an oily spot in the cocobolo that never got fully sealed....
I’ll get some photos of the offensive little issue, maybe the TB give mind can help get this back on track short of refinishing the whole damn thing. You can see that whole front face has a fairly well defined edge, I might get away with sanding and refinning just that face. I was thinking about trying Gluboost, which basically made for drop fill on poly, anybody know if that works over oily wood?
I'm guessing most of us on here suffer from this to some extent, I know I do.
