Sunn 2000s into 2xSunn 2000s cabs loaded with JBL K140s (I don't always use both cabs, and for small venues will use an old Ampeg B2 combo cab)

What Do You Love About It?

Pretty much everything. For me, it just has THE tone. With my P-bass and Nickel Swing 66s, it's just a bone crushing monster. It has the perfect overdrive, and being based on old Dynco Hi-Fi circuits, produces a huge, balanced wall of sound. Interestingly enough, I've just been doing some recording with my band, and the engineer and I were mucking about, and tried both DI'ing my bass and Mic'ing the amp. Surprisingly, the sound of the DI and Mic weren't all that different. The Sunn had a warmer, cushier feel to it, but did an amazingly good job of producing the untampered DI sound of the Bass. With this rig I can go from Entwistle at Leeds (or rather, Fillmore East '69) & Geddy Lee on Fifth Order of Angels biting overdriven snarl, to Jack Bruce/Mel Schacher fat, billowing clouds of bass. It's everything I want for my sound. It also has all the original valves (sans the preamp valve), U.S. Tung Sol 6550s and British Mullard rectifiers. Plus, it's a glorious onstage sight to see a full Sunn rig, makes me feel just like some of my idols (Felix Pappalardi, Noel Redding, John Entwistle).

Amp/Cab for 2 years

What Do You Love About It?
I love the 400RB as it is light enough, small, loud, simplistic, and can work extremely well with my slab or URB.

I love the Showman as it has that smooth round old school tone (with out tons of sub bass), gets loud enough,and is a great med sized cab.

What Kind Of Bass Do You Play?
BASS:Warmoth Pbass (Aero Type 1 p'up/TI Flats)
Strunal 5/20 URB (all plain guts/Underwood p'up)

What is your Rig?
My rig of choice is a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 on top of a Euphonic Audio CXL112.

How Long Have You Had It?
I've owned this rig as a whole for about 3 months now.

What Do You Love About It?
I love that both components are transparent enough to let the tone of all of my electrics as well as my upright really come through, and for making them sound their best. Also, there's nothing more important to me than a company who backs up their product, and EA and GB have been extremely good to me in this respect. Finally, while the EA could be a bit lighter, the rig is easy on my back without having to compromise an inch of tone.

What Kind Of Bass Do You Play?
On electric, I mainly play my Bart-equipped Ibanez SR500 with my fretless Peavey Foundation making the odd appearance. I'm in the market for an upright more serious than my current student level Bohemian by Strunal, but that's what I'm working with for now.

What Kind of Music Do You Play?
I mainly play jazz, funk and fusion in the projects where I have a say in it all (i.e my own projects/bands), but I'll play whatever the gig calls for. I've been known to play rock and metal here and there, and back up some poppy(ish) singers.

What Kind Of Venues Do You Play?
Generally I'm playing coffee house type venues and/or smaller bars/bistros with the odd auditorium or outdoor gig thrown in here and there.

Thunderfunk for three years, one year for the cabinet.

What Do You Love About It?
Sounds like I do in FOH, great eq, I can fix it if it breaks.

Barker B1 five string fretless (main bass for three years)

Acoustic rock, and once in a blue moon Gospel

Mostly corporate work, venues range from big fundraisers to small get togethers. I also play in church on occasion.

I might live with this line-up as long as I live. Are there better, lighter and prettier rigs? Yes. But this one gets the job done very well for me, and by putting the rig questions out of my mind has provided me with more brain space to concentrate on playing.

For live bass, a Phil Jones Bass M-500 head, driving Phil Jones 8-T and 16-B cabs. For Moog Taurus pedals, an SWR Headlite driving a 15" JBL speaker in a Sonic cab.
For recording, an SWR Baby Blue studio reference combo.

How Long Have You Had It?
I'v owned the PJB rig for about 5 years, the Headlite rig for about 2 years, and the Baby Blue for 8 years.

What Do You Love About It?
The Phil Jones rig has incredible punch and bottom end, and the most natural-sounding mids & highs I've ever heard from a bass amp. The down side is that my rig is so friggin heavy that is impossible to move by myself. It's just a beast in every sense of the word.

What Kind Of Bass Do You Play?
My main live basses are my USA Spector NS-4, my Spector CRFM and my Spector Euro LX, and I also own a Ric 4003, a Ric 4004Cii, an EBMM Stingray, a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz, a Hamer import 12-string, a custom NEO brand fish-shaped neon-illuminated bass and a few assorted bashers.

What Kind of Music Do You Play?
For the past 30 years, I've played in a variety of rock and top-40 cover bands, as well as original prog & heavy metal bands.

What Kind Of Venues Do You Play?
Mainly clubs, & the occasional small festival.

1 year for the cab (LDS 15/6 for two yrs previous)

What Do You Love About It?
The tone is full and chest thumping. I also have a 15 band eq I use with it which allows me to sculpt my tone to suit the situations I play. I built the cab out of Italian Poplar and it weighs 43LBS. Amp is 5. So yeah, loud, portable and excellent tone.

Stambaugh Jazz shortscale on gigs 100% of the time.

New band is all rock covers, previous band rockabilly blues.

How Long Have You Had It? 6 months

What Do You Love About It? Portability, light, combined with tight crisp sound. Can easy dial in different tones pretty easily. Also knowing if I need something loud as hell, it's capable!

What Kind Of Bass Do You Play? Mainly a Warwick Corvette $$. Also have a few others.

What Kind of Music Do You Play? Top 40 covers. Have a lead guitarist with a thick tone and a rhythm guitarist who doubles on keys, so the mids are bumped!

What Kind Of Venues Do You Play? Bars/clubs, occasional GB/corporate/wedding

I'd been playing a 12" Walkabout for some time until I paired the amp with a Baer ML-112. Fantastic combination. Indescribably delicious. For me, Roger's creation has lived up to "The sound that's in your head...now at your fingertips" motto. I play praise music and am presently rotating through playing a Dingwall Super P/J-4 strung w/Jonas Hellborgs, a Dark Starred Tribute JB-2 strung w/Sadowsky Black label SS, and a Ric 4003 strung w/GHS contact cores.

What is your Rig?
Live: Matamp GT200 or 70's SVT with a 70's Ampeg 810 loaded with Eminence Legend B810 speakers.

Mesa Walkabout as my backup (never had to use it yet).

Studio: Custom Richtone amp based on the Ampeg B15/SB12, 60 watts with a half power switch. All tube goodness (including the rectifier) along with a 210AV.

How Long Have You Had It?
this exact combination, about 2 years.

What Do You Love About It?
What is not to like, giant tube amps and lots of speakers paired up with classic basses. Its loud and sounds great. The weight is not a big deal, rarely do I need to move it very far.

What Kind Of Bass Do You Play?
Basses are a 1973 Ric 4001, MIJ P-Bass, Skyline Bob Glaub and an MIM J-Bass tuned C#,F#,B,E.

iAMP500C with a wizzy cab extension.

How Long Have You Had It?

The iAMP 500 is 9 years old, everything else is 7 years.

What Do You Love About It?

Great sound and very flexible.

Light weight. It is not as light as the newer micro amps but does meet my "nothing over 50 pounds" rule.

The combo amp is very useful for practices/auditions.

What Kind Of Bass Do You Play?

P basses with flats.

What Kind of Music Do You Play?

When I bought the rig I was playing old country. I have also used it in blues bands but I mainly play classic rock now.

Mainly bars.
