How Long Have You Had It?

What Do You Love About It?
First and foremost, the tone. It is a very 'flat' voiced head that allows each bass's tone to shine thru without lots of coloration.
I love the weight (5lbs) of the GB Shuttlemax, and the fact that I have a tube pre-amp channel and a Purely solid State channel that allows me to dial 2 different tones, or blend the channels together. I love the 'tuner out' feature which allows me to plug a tiny patch cable into the amp and rest the tuner pedal on top of the amp. No long cables or floor clutter.

The NeoX 212T Just sounds killer with this head. I love the weight and portability. I love the tightness of the 12 inch speakers and there ability to fill out the bottom. This cab has incredible dispersion and sounds amazing when you play rooms without PA support. Lastly, i love that the tweeter is adjustable.

8% of the time a 73' Fender Jazz with Flats

Mostly Old School Funk, Soul, Disco, Jazz, Blues...not much rock these days.

What Kind Of Venues Do You Play?
Everything from small spots with no PA support for bass to large Casino Showrooms and Outdoor Festivals.

I'm not free from GAS quite yet, so I can't play. Well actually I AM free from GAS. I just want a couple more things that I really don't need and can live without, but will get anyway. That's not officially GAS ;)

What's your 'Go To' Rig right now Jimmy? I'm sure most of the TB universe already knows the answer, and even I know it involves Ampeg, but what is it?

Not so much without PA support, though I have used it on some non-PA gigs and it worked fine. I couldn't do it on all of them, but I've done as big as an 800 seat theater with just stage volume.

Over a year, and it's by far the best sounding equipment I've ever had.

-- What Do You Love About It?
Everything! I can get pretty much any sound I want, whether it be deep, clean, and thumpy, or warm overdrive with clear treble. And I never have to turn it up very high; it's loud on 3. No worries about cutting through a live mix. People say they can feel it hitting their chest, and that's exactly what I was going for when I chose the components. :)

I'm in an original band that plays pop and a cover band that plays both rock and pop.

For my original band, we play in medium sized city clubs and we're usually lined up with 3 to 5 other bands with each having a 45 minute set. My cover band plays all around the state in good sized clubs that are usually packed... with lots of young women. Shhh.... don't tell my wife. :)

I have no current recordings of my live gear. Sorry!

It's all over the place....a few classic rock tunes, some 80's stuff, some modern dance and pop....the SM 9.2 covers it all.

I feel like posting this will jinx me, but I'm super happy with Mesa boogie heads (Titan and MPulse) with Aguilar GS series 12" cabs. I get a ton of heft, clarity, punch, and most importantly interesting character from this rig. It's clean but not boring. True to my bass tone but no too hifi, not at all sterile. I also liked the powerhouse 12s, but that took me a notch too far into the coloration zone. Plus these heads have great DIs ... as good as anything out there in the studio. Been probably 5 years now with this setup. Like my Markbass F1 with these cabs too.

Basses are mostly sadowsky and a 72p.

Eclectic challenging covers mostly, sometimes rock originals. Parties and small clubs. 35, old and irrelevant now but still love to play :D

Fender jazz with audere pre. I've been using a Squier active 5 but I think I'm sticking to the 4 string from here on out. I have a P lyte to keep at church.

Oldies, dance, funk, 80's, some new stuff, fake jazz, whatever. We're learning Hava Nagila for an upcoming wedding so now I can include Hebrew folk.

What Kind Of Venues Do You Play?
Weddings, Country Clubs, Corporate. Trying to avoid smoky places.

With this amp this is all and it's mostly PA, which is the whole point:


We don't usually dress like that but it was 105 degrees in the shade and the client told us to wear shorts. The guitar player needs to learn about sunless tanning.

I used to be 100% happy with my Kern Preamp into a Stewart poweramp into a Hartke 410xl cab. And my ears are still 100% happy with it. For over 10 years we have rocked everything from basement parties, studio sessions to outdoor gigs and even some noisy bedroom play. I would say our taste is sorta jazz free fusion, It's just a regular fusion of many genres but without all the jazz in it.

However, in recent years I got old and fat and developed back problems. So gravity is no longer my friend, sadly, my rig has always been fond of gravity. So our marriage is on the rocks and I have been going out and fooling around with other tiny little petite rigs on the side. The wife stays at home more than she likes I'm sure.

But she is so warm and tubey. Nothing else can thump and sing like she can, I just can't live without her.... yet.

I can get any sound I want from it and it sounds amazing out front. The "vibration"s" it puts out make the bass end of the stage popular ;). Every note I play gets heard equally as "loud".

Great thread idea. I completely overhauled my rig during the last few years which included flipping lots of gear. I have to say that I am very satisfied with the results.

What is your Rig?

Genx Benz ShuttleMax 9.2 or Carvin BX500 into 2 Bergantino AE112 cabs.

How Long Have You Had It?

I started with the AE212 and decided modular was bett, so altogether almost a year. Added the Carvin for smaller gigs.

What Do You Love About It?

It's versatile, reliable and does everything I need it to. It's clean and has more headroom than I will ever need. Both heads get a great hi-fi tone, but can also get tubey and gritty when I need them to. I like the footswitchable channel, the Carvin's graphic EQ can be switched in or out, so I can have another sounds ready to go. The cabs are perfect to my ears. Plenty of bottom, with some grind in the upper mids to cut through when I dig in or engage the upper mids on the Lull.

sansamp BDDI into crest LT-1500 power amp (one side, 750 watts) into two LDS compact 15s with emi kappa 15a speakers.

finished compiling it a few years ago, and it's all i need!*

loud, grindy and room-filling, but still even from lows to highs (don @ LDS designed the boxes just right for those drivers); i can use one box for quieter gigs, and when i really need to hear it, i stack the cabs "longways" to make a taller and skinnier stack (a trick i learned right here on TB).

i bang on an american standard P with a fralin pickup and 500k pots; the combination of the aggressive and "big"-sounding fralin P pickup and the grindy and slightly scooped sansamp tone is just right for rock and roll through the no-tweeter 15 cabs.

i'm playing fun and aggressive '90s alternative stuff (often with a pick) in bars and clubs.



*OK, technically i'm not 100% there, because i wouldn't turn down a QSC PLX amp of at least equal power, as the crest has some weight to it. a trivial detail that has nothing to do with the actual tone, though.

Country with a little rock thrown in for my band, I do sub gigs for all kinds of bands.

Been playing about 22 years.

What I love about my setup is I can get any tone I want, and it's always present. Great horizontal dispersion, great projection.
