The Ibanez Club (Part 3)

Heres my sweet SrX705. This is the nicest little bass I've ever had. I also have a GSR200 I played almost exclusively out every week for the past year. That bass is beat down now, the PU's actually rusted from sweating on them :( At least it has served well and I will now use it as a rental for a student. The SrX is my first five string and when I hold it I feel like I am home, know what I mean? The pups and eq system offers such a wide range of tone, great for my wide range of styling. I thought about getting rid of it and grabing a sr1200 of Craigs list, but no way not know!

I don't have an Ibanez but needed to get photos for a friend. These are some of the basses at NAMM 2010. Enjoy!

I would like to join the club, though I'll have to post pix once I locate my camera. (misplaced during move)

I have two Ibanezs':
My first bass, a GSR200FM
And this Christmas I got a SR700. I love both of them.

I played drums professionally and semi-professionally for 35 years until my hands fell apart. Long story short, I switched to bass to fill the huge musical void in my life. I'm glad I did. :bassist:

Those sparkle colors are hot, I love Ibanez basses, but I still say the Korean, Chinese, and Indonesian don't compare to the hand crafted Japan made ones. I own/owned a few sr800s which I have an addiction for, and the korean sr400 and sr780 of both the 90s and the most recent up to date ones, and I gotta say they improved on the styling, sound and comfort, but I'll still pick a MIJ made Ibanez over the machine made ones. Love the soundgears for their action and super fast necks, just don't get as percise of taps on any other bass as the soundgears. What happened to the precision pickups though? That's mainly why I won't buy any of the new generation soundgear basses, they lack the P pickup and most of them are machine made which is like serving sh*t on a plate an saying it's authentic so and so food. But I gotta say, regardless, machine or not, they did get the right precision of comfort, action, and sound. They really should reconsider reponening the custom shop in this case, I'm not the only one who misses the Japan crafted soundgears with P pickups.

This is a 1995 Soundgear 505. I got it brand new from a mom n' pop shop when I was in high school, and at the time it was the most expensive thing I'd ever bought.

I used this bass exclusively for about 8 years while I was in a variety of hard rock/metal bands. The thinness of the neck is awesome, and I love how easy it is to go up and down the fretboard with so much ease.

To be honest, I never really loved the tone. It's fine, but not great...kind of a dull, darker tone. I'm thinking now that maybe I should replace the pickups (the existing ones say "ADX" on them, and are active). From reading the previous posts in this thread, it seems that only Bartolini pickups will fit, is that the common wisdom? Any specific models that anyone could recommend? I want to have a brighter tone than what I'm getting right now.

I also have an Ibanez acoustic/electric, and will try to get a pic up soon. Can I get a number?

Edit: Here's a picture that includes the acoustic/electric:

Bartolinis also tend to have a 'darker' tone, but there might be specific models that are brighter, none in my experience though.

My suggestion would be to check out nordstrand, they have a good variety of shapes/sizes of pickups, and while a little bit pricey are some REALLY nice all-around pickups
