The Ibanez Club (Part 3)

So how do I join the Ibanez club? I own a bunch of Ibanez guitars and 2 basses. I owned 2 others but sold them a long time ago. I will post pics of mine tomorrow.

I got my first bass, a black Ibanez GSR200, a few weeks ago and it's freaking amazing. It's just the right weight, the tone is great for metal, and the neck is really fast. I'll have a picture up eventually.

Anyway, I dig Ibbys and I want to be in this "club".

I completely forgot to throw in the new pic of my SR, soon to be testbed for electronics, in a configuration that brings new meaning to "reverse P-J"

I also found something odd, the Ibanez P pickup, rather than having identical coils on each part of the pickup, they are voiced differently on each set of poles: more bassy for the G string and less for the E, and similar for the D and A.

How did I find this? I had put the pickup in "backwards," something I have never had to be concerned about with any passive P pickup I've ever used before, it sounded horrid, the G and D were VERY bright, and the A and E were mud! Problem solved now, but soon it will be wired with other pups anways.

I just bought a 2004 SR300DX from GC for $180.

Once I take some photos I will post them and request a Club #.

The SR300 needs new strings. I play just about all kinds of music: old rock, metal, grunge, country, punk, pop, funk, r&b.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Maybe your pickup got damaged. Clearly it's been in and out of the bass before. Maybe a lead wire has a few broken strands from being removed and reinstalled. I seriously doubt Ibanez went through the effort to redesign the precision pickup for their mid-level Soundgears.

Well, I've joined the club....Pics needed before my membership application can be processed....

I picked up a GWB-35 and am having a great time with the fretless. I'm doing better than I thought I would on fretless - I guess years on cello and trombone do help. Anyway, the bass is REALLY nice - well built and very ergonomic but the electronics are not great, but are OK for now. I may pick up a upgraded version (GWB-1, maybe) if I continue on the fretless experiment.

Any suggestions on a pickup/preamp that is a drop-in retrofit?

Dunno if anyone cares, but the SRX690DX in trans gray is being blown out for $349.99 at MF, plus whatever other coupons you can stick onto it. [shrug]

I have no idea if this matches the various eBay store closeout prices from late last year or not.

HOLY CRAP!

That's a HUGE deal!

The SRX is a killer bass. If I didn't already have one, I'd definitely jump on this!

Bongolation is a "deal predator".;) I say that with all due respect.

Hey all, I'm a long-time singer and new (2 months old) bass player. Got the black Ibanez GSRM20 "Mikro" and have enjoyed learning on it. Though I've really got nothing in terms of experience to compare it to, I've got no complaints and the feel, tone and "playability" have been excellent -- especially for the low price!

Have always loved the Ibanez look/sound...may I join your club?

I'm really interested in this bass but I haven't been able to hear one demo anywhere on the net. I've inquired at various dealers but they never carry the bass- just order when needed. Anyone played or heard one? How does it compare to other Ibanez basses?
I have played other Soundgears - 400 and the anniversary edition I believe it was and loved the tone and especially the slim neck.
