The Ibanez Club (Part 3)

The finish is a poly finish, so it should be pretty resiliant. Maybe use some sort of automotive product?
That sounds scary...unless you mean like a car wash product? I think something like carburetor cleaner would be bad :)

Does anyone have an SR800 Manual from the 80's?(preferably 1987). I bought my Bass used many moons ago and it had passive pickups already installed. I'm wondering how different the modification adjustments are to what the Factory Pot controls are... The upper and lower Knobs closest to the neck control the Front and rear pickup volume. (I have heard this was not always the case) . The upper Rear Knob seems to effect the Lows a tiny bit, and the lower rear knob seems to do nothing as far as I can tell...

Current Pic without all the stickers I removed long ago. (Still haven't cleaned it up as much as I'd like)

This is my SR-705. The finish is transparent black, but it may show different hues, from golden brown to swamp green, under different lighting. Lovely combination of tonewoods and also the easiest bass to play. I've owned it for a year but didn't bother to take photos till yesterday. May I join the club then? :)

Update: no more space left for the attachments, so here's a couple of pics from outside. They're under different lighting. Sorry for bad photographing and even worse photoshopping to hide the disarray in my room ;)

Is there any reason why you wound the strings on the tuners backwards? (angling them to the other side of the tuner instead of straight from nut to post)

Also that is one wild color, does it always look like that, or is it one of those elusive "hard to photograph clearly" colors? Got a nice 'tarnished gold' look to it.

I was trying to figure out what you were talking about with the backwards thing... Yea I get it now. Meh I guess I always have... I honestly never noticed till you said something. I don't think it matters at all sound wise though, the intonation is fine etc...edited: (looking at older pictures I guess I haven't always done that. I still never really noticed...)

The color is Antique Pearl, but there is probably years of gig residue and smokey bar gunk that's "tarnished" it somewhat. I'd actually like to get it stripped and re coated close to the same color but with a slight green tint. (Zombie green), but I have lots of other things I need to spend money on before that happens.

I am shopping for an additional bass with active EQ and medium to light weight. My budget is $700 (not including tax or shipping).

It seems like the Ibanez SR series fits the bill.

As far as I can tell, the only difference (aside from price) between the 700, the 530 and the 500, is finish (and Bubinga neck in the 700). Assuming that I care not about finish or neck wood, why would I not get the $550 SR500 over the $600 SR530 or the $700 SR700?

:help:

The SR500 is pure mahogany, while the SR700 has a maple center block, which provides for a greater sustain. In fact, while having a bolt-on neck, the SR700 has as much (=long and even) sustain as neck-thru basses, such as Ibanez SR900 or Carvin LB70. Also this maple center, along with a maple laminate top, adds brightness to a darker, scooped in low-mids tone of mahogany (while the jatoba/bubinga neck adds punch in the low mids - but, as far as I can remember, the SR500 also has a jatoba/bubinga neck). I tried both SR500 and SR900 in a store and finally bought SR705. Not to say any of these is "worse" than the others, they are just different. The SR500 is basically dark and warm, and the SR700 is somewhat brighter and with much more sustain, but it still has that distinct mahogany tone. I love that combination of woods, but I dig the SR500, too. No experience with SR530, however.

Hope it helps a bit.

Why not you ask ? your choice should ultimately come down to your personal preference in individual instruments...
Just don't overlook [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]....in addition to the SR505, i also have a SRX695DX neck-thru that i'm well pleased with, they're in your ballpark price range and well worth considering...
